Brisbane Women’s Correctional Centre (BWCC) is looking for a First Nations educator to join the team and walk alongside women through every stage of their learning and reintegration journey.
As the Identified Vocational Education Training Officer, you’ll deliver culturally safe Language, Literacy and Numeracy support for First Nations women - helping them build confidence, strengthen their skills and create new opportunities for themselves, their families and their mob.
In this multi-site role, you will support delivery of a connected learning pathway that extends from secure custody at Brisbane Women’s Correctional Centre, into low custody environments at Numinbah Correctional Centre and the Helana Jones Centre.

This position has been identified as a position to be filled by an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person because of a number of factors, including the gross over representation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander offenders in custody.
It is an occupational requirement that this position be filled by an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person as permitted and arguable under Sections 25, 104, and 105 of the Queensland Anti-Discrimination Act 1991.
The Role
In this role you will design, co-ordinate, implement and evaluate vocational training programs and related activities to meet the needs of the offender population within the facility. This position will contribute to the proposed objectives and outcomes of the Queensland Government's Delivering for Queensland plan, National Agreement on Closing the Gap, Royal Commission into Aboriginal Deaths in Custody, Better Justice Together: Queensland's Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Justice Strategy 2024-2031, as well as the organisation's own 2030 Strategic Plan.
Primary Accountabilities
As the Vocational Education Training Officer (Identified), you will:
- Assess participants' vocational training needs and provide advice on training and employment pathways, incorporating cultural considerations to support First Nations participants' learning journeys
- Deliver flexible, blended learning tailored to diverse participant needs, including those with learning limitations, neurodiverse participants, and participants from diverse cultural backgrounds
- Coordinate and deliver nationally recognised vocational qualifications and accredited courses,
assessing competency and providing additional training or risk mitigation support where needed
- Maintain accurate course and participation records across physical, electronic, and IOMS systems, and administer quality control feedback processes with providers and stakeholders
- Build and maintain strong relationships with contracted RTOs, industry groups, and internal stakeholders (including trade instructors and Education, Industries and Specialist Operations) to develop employment pathways and ensure training aligns with operational needs
- Contribute to program research, planning, and review, and maintain currency in industry practices and contemporary teaching methodologies through ongoing career development
- Promote vocational programs to attract participant interest and report on service delivery outcomes, including education outcomes for First Nations participants
- Comply with, and support others to comply with, workplace health and safety policies and procedures
- Undertake other training-related duties as assigned by the Senior Service Coordinator
