Join Mental Health Services at Budyari Gamada, Blacktown Hospital, as part of Western Sydney Local Health District’s exciting expansion of specialist forensic mental health services. Opening on 13 October 2026, the new 20-bed Low Secure Forensic Mental Health Inpatient Unit presents a rare opportunity to join a contemporary service from the beginning and contribute to the way care is delivered.

Working alongside existing mental health services and the broader Forensic Mental Health Network, you’ll be part of a multidisciplinary environment focused on recovery, rehabilitation, cultural safety and positive consumer outcomes.

What you'll be doing
As the Aboriginal Hospital Liaison Officer – Forensic Mental Health, you’ll play a vital non-clinical role supporting Aboriginal consumers throughout their mental health journey. You’ll provide culturally responsive support, advocacy and connection while helping consumers and families navigate health and community services.

- Connect with Aboriginal consumers admitted to mental health services and identify their cultural, social and practical support needs.

- Advocate for person-centred,



holistic and culturally safe care, working collaboratively with consumers, families, carers and the multidisciplinary team.

- Support admission, treatment, case management, discharge and follow-up by connecting consumers with appropriate internal, Aboriginal and community-based services.

- Use your knowledge of the local Aboriginal community to strengthen communication, trust and cultural understanding across the healthcare environment.

- Contribute to cultural safety, reconciliation, Aboriginal Health Strategy initiatives, education and the broader Aboriginal Mental Health Services network.

Essential Requirements:

Qualification: Relevant Qualification in Health
Evidence of Diversity claim if applicable (state which category): Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent with established links with their local Aboriginal community. Selection Criteria:

1. Be of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent (pursuant to Section 14 (d) of the Antidiscrimination Act NSW 1977).

2. Have or be willing to obtain relevant qualifications in Certificate III or IV community services or primary health care.

3. Demonstrated experience in working with Aboriginal people who experience mental health conditions and psychosocial distress. This includes intergenerational trauma, various family structures and the impacts of social and emotional wellbeing impacts for Aboriginal communities

4. Experience in working effectively with a large range of health professionals and advocating for Aboriginal mental health consumers and their families in addressing their health care needs

5. Experience in working effectively with a large range of health professionals and advocating for Aboriginal mental health consumers and their families in addressing their health care needs

6. Demonstrated experience working with complex issues, problem solving, that impact Aboriginal consumers when in a mental health hospital setting. Understanding of the management of consumer complaints and consumer privacy and escalation processes

7. License: Class C Driver’s License
