SCOPE OF ROLE:
The Pre School Learning Centre (PLC) Director acts as the Nominated Supervisor for the service, with the delegated responsibility for the effective leadership, operation and management of the PLC.
The PLC Director will model paramount consideration when working with children and in all decisions made to ensure the safety and wellbeing of every child.
ROLE RESPONSIBILITY:
Line Management:
This position will be responsible to the Head of Early Years and ultimately to the Principal.
Working Relationships:
The Pre School Learning Centre Director will work closely with the Early Learning Centre Director collaborating to ensure consistency across both services in relation to education vision and implementation, curriculum, and pedagogy. They will work directly with the Head of Early Years in matters regarding parent and student complaints, compliance, and overall operation.
They are the direct line manager of the Pre School Learning Centre Educational Leader and administration team. Though these relationships, they are responsible for all staff working in the Pre School Learning Centre.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Pre School Learning Centre Director has the following roles:
Establishment Process – 2026
- Provide strong leadership in the development of the Pre School Learning Centre, collaborating with the Head of Early Years and school Executive.
- Support the Head of Early Years and school Executive to liaise with the regulatory authority regarding service and operational changes as required.
- Assist in the recruitment of new staff, working with the Head of Early Years, Human Resources and the school Executive, ensuing they meet all policies and legal requirements.
- Collaborate with the Head of Early Years and Director of Admissions in the enrolment process.
- Establish a positive, quality learning environment which values the input from families, the needs of children and the professional contribution of teachers and educators.
Ongoing Operation – 2027
- Lead, manage and develop the Pre School Learning Centre to ensure that the unique needs of children 3 – 5 years old are central to the practices and policies that are implemented.
- Ensure the Education and Care Services National Law and Regulations are implemented, contributing to the regular review of policy and procedures to ensure ongoing compliance.
- Manage the day to day operations of the centre, including ensuring staffing levels, compliant attendance records, and effective routines
- Ensure a safe, nurturing, quality learning environment for all children, collaborating with the Educational Leader to create engaging learning programs, well maintained facilities and resources, and strong communication and reporting.
- Establish strong relationships with parents, with effective communication, management of all parent-facing software and clear transition processes into, through and from the Pre School Learning Centre.
- Ensure the needs of children are met, including managing complex health, behaviour, cultural and learning needs,
liaising with internal and external professionals and agencies as required.
- Ensure pastoral care and wellbeing of all children, with close connection to the whole school wellbeing and care teams, the wellbeing progressions and philosophy, ensuring robust responsive and proactive programs and procedures.
- Staying abreast of current developments in Early Childhood education, to strategically plan for and implement improvements in structures, policies, pedagogy and curriculum.
- Communicate effectively with staff and parents including supporting opportunities for concerns and complaints to be raised and actioned.
- Working collaboratively with the Early Learning Centre team to facilitate smooth transitions between Early Years programs.
- Other duties as required.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Variable Duties/Hours:
The nature of the position is such that the Pre School Learning Centre Director is required to be available outside the “normal” office hours, participate fully in the total life of the School, attend meetings and presentations whenever necessary.
Requirements:
- Master of Education (Early Childhood) - desirable
- Bachelor of Early Childhood Education
- Early childhood education experience
- Current First Aid Training – Education and Care setting (HLTAID012)
- Current mandatory Child Safety and Child Protection Training certificates
- Food Safety, Handling and Hygiene Training
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong leadership and interpersonal skills
- Excellent organizational, problem-solving, and time-management skills
- Friendly and approachable demeanour
- Maintain a qualified appearance, attitude, and work ethic at all times
