Mine Manager/General Manager of Operations
Why Are We Advertising Again?
If you keep an eye on the market, you might recall seeing this role advertised just over a year ago. That campaign was so successful that we ended up hiring two exceptional leaders—and both are still within our business today.
Due to continued strategic growth and expanded operations across our portfolio, we are once again searching for a high-calibre leader to join our executive operational team on Christmas Island.
Work in resources, sleep at home every night
Forget traditional fly-in, fly-out rosters and long weeks away from your loved ones. Based full-time on one of Australia’s most spectacular tropical islands, this residential executive role offers an enviable balance: lead a high-stakes resource operation by day and go home every single evening. Whether your idea of unwinding is world-class ocean fishing, diving, or exploring rainforest trails, Christmas Island offers a lifestyle unlike anywhere else in the world. However to protect its natural beauty Christmas Island does not allow pets to relocate with you.
What’s in it for you?
We recognise that relocating to a remote setting requires a compelling reward package. We offer a highly competitive total remuneration structure including:
Above-industry base salary matching executive-level experience
Cost of living allowance: $9,000 per annum
Airfare allowance for annual leave/travel off island
Fully furnished accommodation provided
Company vehicle provided
Comprehensive relocation package: 1+ shipping container allocation (and since your housing is fully furnished, you can use that space to bring your boat, fishing gear, bikes, and recreational toys!)
Scope & operational reality
Reporting directly to the COO, you will hold a genuine seat at the strategy table, contributing directly to Board meetings and guiding operational policy.
Your mandate spans a diverse portfolio: mining, processing, heavy infrastructure, and will also work closely with marine services, fuel distribution, port logistics, and regional business development.
Key operational responsibilities:
Safely drive performance - Deliver planned production tonnages safely and efficiently, honouring our commitments to the Board and customers.
Modernisation & improvement - Lead continuous improvement, digital transformation, operational efficiency, and emerging AI-driven projects.
Complex stakeholder management - Act as the key on-island representative working alongside diverse partners—including government, infrastructure departments, union representatives, marine pilots, stevedores, and freight contractors.
Culture & community - Serve as the custodian of our workplace culture and local community relations, engaging thoughtfully within a vibrant, multicultural island environment.
We need a seasoned campaigner who thrives on autonomy, practical execution, and authentic leadership. Someone who doesn’t need a step-by-step playbook to succeed; you will need to build the pathway and get things done.
We need someone who is
Pragmatic - an authentic communicator who values good, honest conversations over corporate posturing.
Cool under pressure - possessing the maturity and composure required for remote operations. Aging infrastructure or isolated incidents don't make you panic, you stay calm, collected, and focused on solutions.
Stakeholder savvy - You respect diverse cultures and work comfortably with everyone from operators to government officials and Board directors.
Qualified - Solid senior operational leadership experience in mining, heavy industry, or multi-modal supply chain logistics and you hold—or are willing to quickly acquire—Site Senior Executive (SSE) / SSC modules and legal qualifications.
