Job Description
We are working with a leading product development company to find an embedded systems leader to be their next Engineering Manager, leading their hardware and firmware team.
n
About the role
n
This role involves a blend of people leadership and technical direction. In this role, you will spend approximately:
n
n
- 70% of your time on billable work, where you'll architect solutions and provide technical leadership.
n
- 30% leading the team, supporting estimations and proposals, and acting as the primary point of contact for the hardware and firmware teams.
n
n
While that's the estimated time split, the big focus (and area of opportunity) will be on people leadership, mentoring, and building a thriving team culture. The team already has outstanding engineers, they just need a dedicated leader to get the best out of them, and to help guide and grow the function.
n
The team will rely on you to:
n
n
- Manage, mentor, and develop the capability of a highly senior engineering team.
n
- Build a strong, collaborative culture and act as the dedicated people leader.
n
- Act as the technical point of contact, providing architectural guidance for electronics and firmware projects.
n
- Balance your billable workload with a focus on business development, and people management and leadership.
n
- Support commercial success by contributing to sales, business development, proposals, and estimations.
n
- Consult directly with clients and business stakeholders on requirements,
n
- specifications, and proposals for the system design and delivery of embedded solutions
n
n
Ideally you have:
n
n
- A strong technical background in either Hardware or Firmware Engineering (minimum 10 years of experience).
n
- The ability to provide technical leadership and architectural oversight for complex engineering projects.
n
- Experience in a people management role, specifically mentoring and developing technical teams.
n
- Commercial acumen with experience in business development, project estimations, and proposal writing.
n
- Excellent interpersonal skills to foster culture and manage senior technical stakeholders.
n
n
Bonus points if you also have:
n
n
- Experience working with highly regulated products (eg defence, medtech), or within a engineering consulting environment.
n
