Position: Landscape Gardener

The Landscape Gardener will contribute to various projects, working independently or, more frequently, as part of a team to provide top-notch garden and grounds maintenance or landscaping services. You will be friendly and approachable with customers at all times, demonstrating confidence and enthusiasm in your work. The ideal candidate will be self-motivated, adaptable, proactive, and a collaborative team player.

The Landscape Gardener will work across sites located in Terrey Hills, North Ryde, Seven Hills and Badgerys Creek in Current South Wales.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Grounds and Gardens Maintenance
2. Care for flowerbeds through weeding, hoeing, planting, and pruning.
3. Maintain fruit trees and ornamental specimen trees to ensure healthy growth.
4. Trim hedges and manage overgrown brambles as needed.
5. Oversee the upkeep of containers and hanging baskets, ensuring vibrant displays.
6. Conduct daily maintenance of the grounds, marking sports areas, and preparing playing surfaces using appropriate techniques and machinery.
7. Maintain ditches and pathways, and manage the removal of grass clippings and leaves.
8. Operate machinery including ride-on mowers, power tools, and tractors, ensuring their upkeep.
9. Manage watercourses and assist with tree pruning,



alongside minor repairs to hardscape elements like dry stone walls.
10. Perform weed spraying and apply fertilizers and chemicals, maintaining accurate spray records.
11. Undertake general gardening tasks, turf care, and grass cutting, which may require heavy lifting.
12. Assist with the setup and takedown of sports equipment, including goal posts and marquees.
13. Support fellow staff members with additional tasks as directed by the Bursar or Grounds & Gardens Manager at both the Senior School and the Prep/Pre-Prep site.
14. Attend necessary training sessions for the safe operation of chainsaws and other power equipment, as coordinated with the Grounds and Gardens Manager.

Requirements:

1. AQF Certificate III including at least two years of on-the-job training, or AQF Certificate IV qualification
2. At least three (3) years of relevant experience may substitute for the formal qualifications listed
3. At least three (3) years of experience working as a Landscape Gardener or in a similar horticulture/landscaping role
4. Experience working with Australian native plants and an understanding of native plant species and their maintenance requirements.
5. Knowledge and understanding of workplace health and safety (WHS) requirements and safe work practices.
6. Ability to work independently as well as effectively within a team.
7. Current driver's licence and the ability to travel between sites including Terrey Hills, North Ryde, Seven Hills and Badgerys Creek, NSW.
