New South Lawyers is seeking an experienced and commercially minded Senior Litigation Lawyer with a strong background in building and construction disputes to join its expanding Litigation & Dispute Resolution team based in the heart of Parramatta’s CBD at the landmark 8 Parramatta Square precinct - one of Australia’s most significant urban renewal projects and a premium commercial destination in the centre of Western Sydney.

Positioned directly above Parramatta Station and moments from the new Parramatta Light Rail, River Cat ferry services and major arterial roads including the M4, 8 Parramatta Square offers exceptional convenience and connectivity for professionals travelling from across Sydney. The precinct is also surrounded by premium dining, cafes, fitness facilities, retail amenity and major commercial and government tenants, creating a vibrant and highly professional working environment in the centre of Sydney’s rapidly expanding second CBD.

About the Role:

The ideal candidate will have at least five years PAE with a particular focus on building and construction disputes and litigation experience. You will be able to work autonomously as well as part of a team, with the opportunity to manage matters from start to finish.

This role offers genuine autonomy and ownership of sophisticated disputes, significant client-facing responsibility, advocacy opportunities and the opportunity to mentor junior lawyers while contributing to the continued growth of the firm.

Matters may include:

Building and construction disputes involving developers, builders, contractors, subcontractors, owners and other industry participants

Contractual disputes arising from construction and development projects

Defective building and construction claims

Payment disputes, including claims relating to progress payments, variations, extensions of time and contractual entitlements





NCAT proceedings and other building and construction-related disputes

Commercial and civil litigation

Property and equity disputes

Insolvency-related litigation and disputes

Regulatory and statutory disputes

Negotiations, mediations, dispute resolution conferences and settlement proceedings

District Court, Supreme Court and other relevant NSW court proceedings

Complex interlocutory applications, hearings and final hearings

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced litigator seeking to take the next step into a senior, client-facing role with genuine autonomy, leadership responsibility and long-term career development within a modern and growing law firm.

About You:

To succeed in this role, you will ideally demonstrate:

Ten or more years’ post-admission experience practising in litigation and dispute resolution, with substantial experience in building and construction disputes

Strong working knowledge of NSW court procedures, practice notes and relevant legislation across multiple jurisdictions, including NCAT

A proven track record independently managing complex litigation matters from commencement through to hearing, settlement or judgment

Demonstrated experience acting in building and construction disputes involving developers, builders, contractors, subcontractors and property owners

Excellent drafting skills, including pleadings, affidavits, submissions, interlocutory applications, advices and high-level correspondence

Confidence appearing in court and conducting interlocutory and substantive hearings

Advanced negotiation, mediation and dispute resolution skills, with a robust focus on achieving commercially sound outcomes

Strong commercial acumen and the ability to develop effective litigation strategies aligned with clients’ commercial objectives

Exceptional client relationship and communication skills, with the ability to advise both individuals and sophisticated corporate and commercial clients

Exceptional organisational and file management skills,



with the ability to manage a demanding caseload and competing court deadlines

Demonstrated ability to work autonomously, take ownership of matters and exercise sound professional judgement

Ability to supervise, mentor and support junior lawyers while contributing positively to team culture

Genuine leadership qualities, initiative and a proactive approach to problem solving

Strong work ethic and a genuine desire to continue building a long-term career and leadership profile within litigation and dispute resolution

Highly Regarded:

Extensive experience in building and construction litigation and dispute resolution

Experience acting in NCAT building and construction proceedings

Experience in commercial litigation, property disputes and/or insolvency litigation

Advocacy experience across the Local, District and Supreme Courts of NSW

Familiarity with electronic court filing systems and litigation technology platforms

Existing professional referral networks or demonstrated business development capability

Experience working with developers, builders, construction companies, property owners or other participants in the construction industry

A genuine interest in long-term career progression and contributing to the continued growth of the firm
