The Medical Receptionist is responsible for providing exceptional customer service to patients while supporting the efficient day-to-day operation of the practice.

As the first point of contact for patients, this role plays a critical part in delivering a positive patient experience and supporting clinicians and administrative staff in the delivery of high-quality healthcare services.

Key Responsibilities

Reception & Patient Services
n
n
- Welcome patients and visitors in a professional and friendly manner.
n
- Manage incoming telephone calls and patient enquiries.
n
- Book, confirm and amend appointments.
n
- Assist patients with general enquiries and appointment scheduling.
n
- Maintain a high standard of patient confidentiality and privacy.
n
n
Billing & Administration
n
n
- Process Medicare, DVA and private billings.
n
- Manage EFTPOS and cash transactions.
n
- Perform daily banking and reconciliation processes as required.
n
- Maintain accurate patient records and demographic information.
n
- Scan, file and manage electronic medical records.
n
n
Appointment & Recall Management
n
n
- Manage appointment schedules.
n
- Process recalls, reminders and follow-up communications.
n
- Assist with waiting list management.
n
- Support clinicians in maintaining efficient appointment utilisation.
n
n
Practice Administration
n
n
- Provide general administrative support to the practice.
n
- Assist with stock ordering and monitoring of office supplies.
n
- Prepare correspondence and documentation as required.
n
- Support quality improvement and accreditation activities.
n
- Assist with administrative projects and process improvements.
n
n
Team Support
n
n
- Work collaboratively with doctors, nurses and administrative staff.
n
- Assist with reception coverage and daily workflow management.
n
- Contribute to a positive workplace culture.
n
- Support business continuity during periods of staff leave and increased workload.
n

Essential

- Previous reception, administration or customer service experience.
n
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
n
- Strong organisational and time-management skills.

- Qualified presentation and a patient-focused approach.

- Intermediate computer skills.

- Previous medical reception experience.

- Knowledge of Medicare billing processes.

- Experience working within a GP or healthcare setting.

Remuneration
