Summary

About the opportunity This is a rare opportunity for an experienced operations, production or nursery leader to take ownership of an established and important Tasmanian operation. Based in Perth, Tasmania, you’ll lead a high-volume nursery and seed centre responsible for producing millions of seedlings and maintaining critical seed resources that support forestry operations across the state. Importantly, you don’t need to come from forestry. We’re interested in leaders from nursery production, horticulture, agriculture, tree crops, intensive production or other comparable environments who understand how to bring together people, planning, safety and production performance. With an experienced team and established systems already in place, this role offers the opportunity to build on a robust foundation while bringing your own leadership style and ideas to the operation.

Job Description

What you’ll be responsible for

You’ll have broad ownership of the site, with responsibility spanning people, production, safety, budgets and customer outcomes. Your focus will include:

- Leading and developing the nursery and seed centre team
- Planning production, labour and resources to meet seasonal requirements
- Driving a strong safety culture and consistent operational standards
- Managing budgets, costs and productivity
- Building capability and succession within the team
- Working closely with internal stakeholders, customers, contractors and suppliers
- Identifying opportunities to improve systems, efficiency and performance

What we’re looking for

We’re looking for a capable operational leader who enjoys running a business unit and developing people. You may currently be working as a Nursery Manager, Production Manager, Operations Manager, Farm Manager or in a similar leadership position. Ideally, you’ll bring:

- Experience leading people within a production-based environment
- Strong planning and organisational capability
- Confidence managing labour, budgets and operational priorities
- A practical understanding of safety and risk management
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
- Exposure to horticulture, nursery production, agriculture, forestry or tree crops will be highly regarded
- Formal qualifications in horticulture, agriculture or a related discipline are advantageous, but practical leadership and operational capability are equally important

Why consider this role?

This is more than a nursery management position. It’s an opportunity to take responsibility for an established operation with significant production scale, an experienced team and genuine strategic importance. The role offers:

- An attractive remuneration package commensurate with experience
- Company vehicle
- Monday-Friday working week
- Flexible start and finish arrangements
- Long-term stability with an established Tasmanian organisation
- A genuine succession opportunity with scope to shape the operation into the future
