SENIOR AUDIO VISUAL TECHNICIAN / OPERATIONS MANAGER
$75,000 - $85,000 per year + Profit Share
Are you one of the best in the business?
Sublime Audio Visual is looking for an exceptional Senior AV Technician / Operations Manager to take a major role in the next stage of our business.
This is not a standard technician position.
We are looking for someone who has the technical ability to walk into a difficult show and solve the problem, the organisational ability to make sure the problem never happens in the first place, and the leadership skills to build and manage a high-performing team.
If you're currently the person everyone calls when things get complicated, when the gear isn't right, when the schedule falls apart or when a client needs someone who actually knows what they're doing — we want to talk to you.
THE OPPORTUNITY
You will become a key operational leader within Sublime Audio Visual.
You'll have genuine responsibility across:
People. Equipment. Logistics. Events. Clients. Systems. Standards.
Your job is to make sure the business is ready to deliver — and then make sure we deliver.
You'll oversee the preparation and execution of multiple events, coordinate technicians and casual crew, manage equipment and logistics, and personally take the lead on technically demanding productions when required.
You'll have the autonomy to identify what's not working, fix it and implement better systems.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Leading the day-to-day technical and operational delivery of the business
- Planning multiple events simultaneously
- Allocating technicians and crew
- Coordinating equipment, vehicles, deliveries and collections
- Preparing and checking equipment before events
- Overseeing bump-ins, event operation and bump-outs
- Taking senior technical responsibility on major productions
- Troubleshooting complex audio, video, lighting and signal-flow issues
- Managing warehouse and equipment standards
- Maintaining equipment, stock and technical readiness
- Working directly with clients, venues, event planners and suppliers
- Assisting with technical quoting and production planning
- Improving operational systems, workflows and procedures
- Training and developing technicians
- Setting and maintaining technical and presentation standards
- Ensuring jobs are delivered on time, professionally and profitably
- Identifying problems before they become expensive problems
- Helping shape the future direction of Sublime Audio Visual
WE WANT A LEADER — NOT JUST A TECH
You should be technically excellent.
But technical knowledge alone isn't enough.
We're looking for someone who naturally thinks:
"What needs to happen, who needs to do it, what could go wrong and how do we make sure it doesn't?"
You'll need to be comfortable moving between the warehouse, a venue,
a client meeting, a production plan and a difficult technical problem — sometimes all in the same day.
You should be the kind of person who:
- Takes ownership without being asked
- Doesn't make excuses
- Notices the details others miss
- Keeps calm when things go wrong
- Can make decisions under pressure
- Communicates clearly
- Holds yourself and others to a high standard
- Understands that presentation and professionalism matter
- Can lead experienced technicians without ego
- Is commercially aware
- Wants to improve the way things are done
- Takes pride in delivering an outstanding result
TECHNICAL EXPERIENCE
You should have extensive professional AV experience and be highly confident with a broad range of event technology.
We're particularly interested in candidates with strong experience across:
- Professional audio systems and signal flow
- Wireless microphone systems
- Corporate presentation systems
- Video distribution and switching
- TV's Projectors and LED screens
- Staging and event infrastructure
- Dante and networked AV
- RF coordination
- Corporate events and conferences
- Complex multi-room productions
You don't need to be the world's best operator in every discipline.
But you do need to understand how the whole production fits together.
THE COMMERCIAL SIDE MATTERS
The right person understands that running a successful AV company isn't just about making the show work.
It's about making the whole operation work.
You'll understand the importance of:
- Accurate preparation
- Minimising damage and loss
- Controlling overtime
- Scheduling efficiently
- Preventing avoidable equipment failures
- Protecting margins
- Delivering what was quoted
- Creating repeat clients
You don't need an MBA.
WHY THIS ROLE IS DIFFERENT
We're deliberately looking for someone who wants more responsibility and more influence .
You won't be micro-managed.
If you can demonstrate that you know what you're doing, we'll give you the room to do it.
You'll have the opportunity to help determine:
How we operate.
How we prepare jobs.
How we manage our team.
How we use our equipment.
How we service our clients.
And ultimately, where Sublime goes next.
This is the type of role where your performance will be visible — and where a great operator can have a genuinely significant impact on the business.
WHAT WE'LL OFFER THE RIGHT PERSON
For the right candidate,
we're prepared to offer a package that reflects the level of responsibility and experience we're looking for.
You’ll receive:
- A competitive salary package with a unique profit share structure
- Genuine autonomy and responsibility
- A leadership role within an established AV company
- Access to skilled AV equipment and major productions
- Variety — every week is different
- Direct involvement with clients and major events
- The chance to build and improve the operation
- A genuine pathway for further responsibility as the business grows
- A team environment where initiative is rewarded
- The opportunity to make your mark on the business
We're not looking to hire someone cheap.
We're looking to hire someone exceptional.
If you can save the business time, improve our systems, develop our people, protect our equipment, improve client outcomes and help us deliver more work at a higher standard, we want to pay for that value.
THE FIRST 90 DAYS
We expect the successful candidate to make an impact quickly.
Within your first 90 days, we'd expect you to:
- Understand — learn our people, equipment, clients, systems and workflow.
- Improve — identify operational bottlenecks and obvious opportunities.
- Own — take responsibility for the day-to-day technical operation.
- Lead — establish clear expectations and standards across the technical team.
- Deliver — demonstrate that events are being prepared and executed at a consistently high level.
THIS ROLE WILL SUIT YOU IF...
You've reached the point in your career where being "the best technician on site" isn't enough anymore.
You want run things.
You want to build a team.
You want to improve systems.
You want to have a voice.
You want responsibility.
You want to be judged on the success of the operation — not just whether you plugged the speakers in correctly.
If that sounds like you, keep reading.
THIS ROLE IS NOT FOR YOU IF...
You're looking for a 9-5 job with minimal responsibility.
You need someone to tell you what to do every day.
You don't care what happens to equipment after the job.
You blame someone else when things go wrong.
You think "that’s not my job" is an acceptable answer.
Or you’re happy doing things the same way simply because "that’s how we’ve always done it."
We’re looking for the opposite.
