Transport Assets and Operations (TAO) plays a vital role in managing Brisbane's transport network, ensuring the safe and efficient movement of people and freight across our roads, bikeways and shared paths. Through the management of critical transport infrastructure and operational services, TAO helps keep Brisbane moving and supports the city's growth, liveability and economic prosperity.

Our Branch

The Brisbane Metropolitan Transport Management Centre (BMTMC) is a partnership between the Queensland Government and Brisbane City Council, delivering best-practice transport services to support safe, reliable and efficient travel across the metropolitan road network.

Operating 24 hours a day, 7 days a week from a state-of-the-art operations room, the Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR), Brisbane City Council, TransLink and Transport for Brisbane work together to manage traffic and public transport for almost half of Queensland's population. The team oversees traffic flow, coordinates responses to incidents, supports major planned events and manages disruptions caused by accidents, emergencies and severe weather.

The Role

There are currently two Traffic Operations Officer positions available. These Permanent Flexible Part-Time roles primarily operate between 5:00am and 11:00pm, Monday to Friday, although some overnight and weekend shifts will be required. A minimum of 20 rostered hours per week is guaranteed; however, many of our operators regularly work 30+ hours per week.

As a Traffic Operations Officer, you will work in a fast-paced and technology-driven setting,



monitoring thousands of kilometres of road network using advanced traffic management and surveillance systems. You will play a critical role in managing real-time planned and unplanned events, coordinating responses to incidents and minimising impacts on the travelling public.

Working closely with emergency services, government agencies, public transport operators and other stakeholders, you will help deliver effective operational outcomes and support the safe and productive movement of people throughout Brisbane.

This role requires resilience, sound judgement and the ability to remain calm under pressure. While the work can be challenging during major incidents and network disruptions, you will be part of a supportive team environment that values collaboration, professionalism and teamwork. Successful team members can quickly adapt to changing situations, communicate clearly and confidently, and maintain focus in high-pressure environments.

To be considered, you will have:

- ability to work effectively both autonomously and within a high-performing team
- experience responding independently to complex, real-time situations and delivering quality responses and effective solutions
- proficiency using multiple computer-based systems, including data capture and surveillance systems, in a high‑pressure environment
- strong written and verbal communication skills, with a focus on customer service and engagement with a broad range of stakeholders
- excellent organisational and administrative skills, including accurate data entry and record management
