- Salary Package: From $82,666 – $110,115 per annum (RN Level 2-8) + 12% superannuation + access to salary packaging via Maxxia to maximise your take-home pay (including venue hire, meals, entertainment and novated leasing). Macquarie University Hospital is seeking an experienced Registered Nurse to join our Ward 4 West team, based at Macquarie University, Wallumattagal Campus, North Ryde. Ward 4 West cares for patients across cardiology, cardiothoracic, vascular, respiratory and oncology, and our nursing team plays a central role in the recovery of patients undergoing some of the most complex surgery performed in the private sector.
Our hospital offers extensive cardiac and vascular surgery, including coronary artery bypass grafts, mitral valve repairs, lobectomies and a broad range of robotic procedures. This role will suit a nurse who is confident caring for acutely unwell patients, enjoys clinical complexity, and wants to build genuine specialty depth with the support of an experienced multidisciplinary team.
This is a permanent full-time position with an immediate start available. You will work a rotating roster and be supported by structured orientation, ongoing education and clear pathways for further study and career progression.
About the Role
As a Registered Nurse in Ward 4 West, you will deliver safe,
evidence-based and compassionate care to patients with complex cardiac, respiratory, vascular and oncological conditions. Working closely with cardiologists, oncologists, surgeons, respiratory clinicians and allied health colleagues, you will support patients and their families through every stage of their admission, from pre-operative preparation through to recovery and discharge planning.
Key areas of responsibility include:
- Performing comprehensive nursing assessments for patients with cardiac, cardiothoracic, respiratory, vascular and oncological conditions
- Conducting advanced risk assessments, planning interventions and delivering care that is secure, appropriate and clinically effective
- Recognising and escalating clinical deterioration promptly, and responding effectively during critical incidents
- Collaborating closely with cardiologists, oncologists, surgeons, respiratory clinicians, nursing colleagues and allied health professionals
- Educating patients, families and carers about disease processes, medications, self-care and recovery strategies
- Maintaining accurate, professional and timely clinical documentation in accordance with Macquarie University Health policy, and contributing to quality improvement activity

About You
You are a capable and adaptable Registered Nurse who thrives in an acute specialty environment and takes pride in delivering an excellent patient experience.
To be considered, you will demonstrate:
- Current AHPRA registration as a Registered Nurse
- Experience in acute care nursing, with exposure to cardiology, cardiothoracic, vascular, respiratory or oncology highly desirable
- Excellent organisational and time management skills, with a proven ability to prioritise and multitask in a fast-paced workplace and during critical incidents
- Demonstrated ability to work autonomously and exercise sound independent professional judgement and critical thinking
- Well-developed computer skills, including the use of electronic medical records systems, Microsoft Word, Excel and web-based research
- Flexibility and availability to work a rotating roster across a variety of shifts
