- Annual base salary: $112,550 (Level A, step 6 - PhD Awarded Rate), plus 17% superannuation & annual leave loading

- Full-time, 24-month fixed term appointment

Are you ready to bring your laboratory expertise to research that matters? Join the 2IR NeuroHub within the Faculty of Medicine, Health and Human Sciences and play a hands-on part in uncovering the biological mechanisms behind neurodegenerative movement disorders such as Parkinson's disease.

Working alongside Professor Nicolas Dzamko and a multidisciplinary team, you will apply technical and operational flow cytometry expertise to a cutting-edge project investigating immune cell biomarkers for Parkinson's disease. Your work will directly enable studies that aim to improve the understanding, diagnosis and treatment of neurodegenerative diseases.

About the Role

- Flow cytometry assessment of immune cell responses to stimulation.
- Design and optimisation of flow cytometry panels and analysis and interpretation of resulting data.
- Integration of flow cytometry data with clinical and other multi modal datasets.
- Collecting, recording and organising experimental data, maintaining accurate records.
- Contributing to the publication and dissemination of research outcomes.
- Helping maintain laboratory facilities, stock management and compliance with biosafety and WHS requirements.
- Providing input to students and colleagues within the scope of the role.

The Faculty of Medicine, Health and Human Sciences (FMHHS)



is enthusiastically pushing the boundaries of progressive thinking to help solve some of the big issues of our time, both nationally and on a global scale. The faculty forms part of MQ Health, an integrated academic health sciences enterprise which incorporates Macquarie University Hospital and primary and speciality clinics. We have active research programs in biomedical and clinical sciences, cognitive and brain sciences, health systems, linguistics, physiotherapy, psychology and public health, among others.

The Faculty of Medicine, Health and Human Sciences comprises three schools, two departments and an institute. This role sits within the Macquarie Medical School which brings together education, research and clinical practice, with a solid focus on advancing biomedical and clinical research.

About You (Selection Criteria)

- Completion of a PhD in neuroscience, immunology or a related discipline,
- Demonstrated experience in a laboratory or technical environment,
- Experience in developing, optimising and performing multi colour flow cytometry panels, ideally using peripheral human immune cells (PBMC's, monocytes, T-cells etc),
- Careful attention to detail and the ability to follow established procedures and protocols accurately,
- Well-developed organisational and time management skills, with the capacity to manage multiple tasks and troubleshoot.

*** Note: This role requires the successful candidate to work on site during normal business hours and is required to meet all Category A immunisation requirements as a condition of employment. The successful candidate will also be required to complete a police check and an academic verification check.
