Science Technician - New secondary school in Logan Reserve Queensland Government Logan City, QLD, AU
Job Description
About us:
A current secondary school will open in Logan Reserve in Term 1, 2027, initially catering for Years 7 and 8, with additional year levels added progressively. We are building a connected, inclusive, future-focused school community where every student can thrive.
Your opportunity: As the Science Technician, you will provide technical, practical and administrative support to contribute to the effective and efficient operation of the science department.
Working alongside school leaders, teachers and students, you will prepare resources and equipment for practical learning, maintain laboratory spaces and scientific resources, support safe laboratory practices and help create engaging hands-on learning experiences.
The role will also contribute to STEM initiatives, supporting opportunities that increase student engagement and encourage future STEM pathways.
Key responsibilities:
- prepare, distribute and set up equipment, samples, demonstrations and scientific materials for practical lessons
- prepare chemical solutions and safely manage chemical hazards
- maintain laboratories, preparation areas, storerooms and scientific teaching resources in a clean, safe, secure and organised manner
- maintain safe systems for chemical and laboratory waste storage, handling and disposal
- operate, maintain and calibrate laboratory equipment and apparatus
- assist teachers and students with practical activities, demonstrations, field trips and the safe use of scientific equipment
- support and promote STEM initiatives and practical components of the curriculum
- manage science resources, stock, equipment, chemicals and associated registers
- maintain accurate inventory, purchasing, Safety Data Sheet and hazardous substance records
- assist with ordering, quotes, deliveries, stocktakes and science department resources
- identify maintenance requirements and arrange repairs or replacement of equipment where required
- establish,
review and maintain laboratory protocols and methods

What you’ll bring:
We are looking for someone who is organised, practical and safety focused, with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
- a diploma qualification relevant to the tasks outlined, from a recognised tertiary institution, or another qualification considered acceptable by the Department of Education
- sound knowledge of laboratory safety, chemicals, equipment and safe work practices
- strong organisational and problem-solving skills
- effective communication and relationship-building skills
- the ability to manage changing priorities and support the practical needs of teachers and students
- a commitment to maintaining safe, inclusive and supportive learning environments
- enthusiasm for supporting practical science and STEM learning
