About the Role:
n
The Living Collections Support Officer contributes to the dailyoperation of the Botanic Gardens as a botanical collectinginstitution by delivering living collection curation and eventsupport horticultural maintenance of curated living collections andassociated landscapes. The role is an experienced specialistamenity botanic gardens officer and is required to work consistentwith statutory responsibilities, corporate policies and botanicgardens industry standards. The role will support the dailydelivery of best practice living collection revitalisation andmaintenance, including associated landscape maintenance by:

- Applying best practice amenity botanic gardenshorticulture.
n
- Supporting horticultural and collection curation managementinitiatives.
n
- Apply best practice WHS, record keeping and contractormanagement.
n
- Providing specialist support for event delivery, siteactivation and daily visitor support services.
n
- Provide daily site maintenance services as directed.
n
n
The role will participate in and provide contractor inductionsand public presentations, using specialist horticultural and siteknowledge to provide specialist living collection training, toaudiences such as horticultural trainees, volunteers and thepublic. The role also supports the delivery of workplace health andsafety practices and leads a small team with a positive attitudeand resilience.

Role based at Adelaide Botanic Garden, but projects andinfluence across Adelaide, Mount Lofty, Wittunga Botanic Gardensand Botanic Park.

Contract:

Contract for up to 12 months.

Essential Criteria (includingqualifications):
n
n
- Certificate III in Horticulture (Trade LevelQualifications) is essential or equivalent industry training orexperience.
n
- Completion and currency of operational licences, permitsand certifications relevant to horticultural practices and safework activities.
n
- Extensive knowledge and experience in establishing andmaintaining a public garden such as a botanic garden or otherrelevant garden experience, including demonstrated knowledge ofcurrent horticultural practices, plant identification andcuration.
n
- Demonstrated ability to optimise event delivery support,including map use, record keeping, inductions and siteassessments.
n
- Extensive experience in the safe and effective operation ofhorticultural machinery and equipment and selection and use ofpersonal protective equipment
n
- Demonstrated experience in the provision of high-qualitycustomer service to visitors and other clients in a tourist andlearning destination, including the ability to communicateregulations in a courteous and professional manner.
n
- Knowledge of software packages such as Word, Excel,PowerPoint, Timewise and Plant Records Databases i.e.BGBase.
n
- Demonstrated ability to work as a constructive, adaptableand resilient member of a team.
n
- Demonstrates a positive, adaptable and resilient demeanourand works well in a small team environment, taking on smallteam project supervisory responsibilities as directed.
n
- Effective written and verbal communication skills,including the ability to communicate appropriate to variousaudiences and to clearly provide professional advice.
n
- Working knowledge of the Work Health and Safety (WHS) Act2012 and related policies and is able to apply this practicallyin the context of garden operations and daily work deliveryrequirements of the role.
n
- Shows an accurate understanding of and can apply theBotanic Gardens and State Herbarium Act 1978, Botanic Gardensand State Herbarium Regulations 2021 and associated nationalrequirements of botanic gardens horticulture.
n
- A current class "C" driver's licence and willingness andability to safely operate a 4wd is essential.
n

- Will be required to participate in responses to stateemergencies or associated duties.

- You must be an Australian citizen, permanent resident, orprovide evidence that you hold a valid working visa that allowsyou to work in Australia without restrictions.

- The Department for Environment andWater is committed to providing a protected environment to allchildren and young people who access our services and visit oursites. This role requires candidates to provide a validWorking with Children Check which must be renewed every fiveyears before expiry. DEW will cover the cost ofrenewal.
n
- This role requires candidates toprovide a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check whichmust be renewed every three years before expiry. DEW will coverthe cost of renewal.
n
- A current First Aid Certificate is essential.
n
- Wearing a company uniform during working hours and/or whenrepresenting the department is mandatory.
n
- May be required to work outside of normal working hours,including weekends and public holidays.
n
- The incumbent may be assigned to a position at another siteto that advertised dependent on organisational and individualdevelopment requirements.
n
- A willingness and ability to safely operate machinery andissue expiations is essential.
n
n
A successful applicant who is not currently employed by theDepartment for Environment and Water will be required to have anoriginal photo identification document sighted and provide a validNationally Coordinated Criminal History Check (NCCHC) issued withinthe last 12 months. This information must be supplied by allapplicants who are shortlisted for interview.
