Job Description
About Simpson Energy
n
Simpson Energy is advancing a large onshore exploration position in the southern Northern Territory across the Pedirka and Eromanga basins.
n
Following major seismic work across EP93, Simpson is progressing further seismic acquisition and interpretation across its permit portfolio and maturing an initial oil and gas appraisal drilling program.
n
The Role
n
You will lead the geological work required to turn Simpson's expanding seismic and well dataset into ranked, drilling-ready prospects.
n
Your immediate focus will be seismic integration, prospect maturation, well-target definition, appraisal planning and drilling support. You will work with specialist geophysicists, reservoir engineers, drilling personnel, and external consultants.
n
Key Responsibilities
n
n
- Lead and support geological interpretation and prospect maturation across Simpson's Northern Territory acreage.
n
- Integrate seismic, well, petrophysical, pressure, fluid, stratigraphic and structural data into robust geological models.
n
- Define geological objectives for seismic acquisition, processing and interpretation alongside specialist geophysicists and contractors.
n
- Rank and risk prospects; prepare volumetrics, well proposals, prognoses and decision materials.
n
- Lead geological inputs to drilling, including formation evaluation, coring, logging, sampling and post-well analysis.
n
- Maintain disciplined QA/QC, data governance, peer review and uncertainty-management processes.
n
- Manage geological consultants and technical studies; prepare material for regulators, partners and technical due diligence.
n
- Support evaluation of reservoir, seal, fault and containment characteristics relevant to geological carbon-storage work.
n
n
About You
n
You are a senior petroleum geologist with a strong Australian onshore record and direct experience taking prospects from interpretation through drilling, and you must be prepared to travel to site on a regular basis.
n
You will bring:
n
n
- 12+ years of applied petroleum geology experience, preferably in Australian basins. (candidates with less experience may be considered subject to work history)
n
- Northern Territory experience strongly preferred; experience in the Pedirka, Amadeus, Eromanga, Cooper or comparable basins highly regarded.
n
- Robust seismic interpretation, structural and stratigraphic capability.
n
- Demonstrated experience in prospect generation, risking, volumetrics and well-target maturation.
n
- Direct appraisal or development drilling experience.
n
- The ability to work effectively across geology, geophysics, petrophysics, reservoir engineering and drilling.
n
- Experience with Petrel, Kingdom or DecisionSpace and GIS tools.
n
- Clear technical writing and communication skills.
n
- Experience in geological carbon storage, underground gas storage, injectivity, seal or fault analysis is advantageous but not essential.
n
n
Why Simpson
n
This role offers direct involvement in a significant Australian onshore exploration and appraisal program at the point where seismic interpretation is being converted into drilling decisions.
n
Competitive remuneration will be offered, commensurate with experience.
