CDM Smith Australia is a specialist environment, water, and digital consultancy. Our clients are mining companies, government, defence, utilities and energy proponents. They don’t buy our services because they saw an advertisement. They buy because they’ve heard of us, they trust us, they read something we wrote that made them think, or someone they respect recommended us.

We are looking for a Marketing and Growth Specialist who understands that distinction, and who can turn deep technical expertise into market influence and revenue.

What you’ll actually do

Become a student of our business. In your first three months you will learn enough about mining approvals, water resources, asset and mine closure, environmental planning, contaminated land and GIST to ask informed questions and spot opportunities. You won’t be the technical expert, but you will be able to explain what we do in plain language.

Build a thought leadership engine. Technical articles, client success stories, regulatory commentary, conference abstracts, webinars and expert profiles, planned on a calendar, not produced on request.

Sit with business development, not beside it. You will work directly with our National Sales Lead, Market Sector Leads,



Client Service Leads and Technical Practice Leads on target clients, upcoming opportunities and growth sectors.

Support pursuits and bids. Positioning material, capability statements, client-specific collateral and win-theme support for major submissions.

Interview technical people and write. You will sit with a Principal Hydrogeologist or Environmental Scientist, understand what makes their work matter, and publish something a client wants to read.

Build our sector presence. Speaking opportunities, industry roundtables, conference participation and sector campaigns that put our people in front of the right audiences.

Strengthen our employer brand. Support recruitment and retention in a competitive technical market.

Measure what matters. Report on business impact, pipeline influence, share of voice, qualified engagement, not activity volume.

What we’re looking for

We will prioritise the following over traditional marketing credentials:

Professional services marketing experience, engineering, environmental, legal, technical or consulting

Exposure to business development, pursuits, bids or major submissions





The ability to interview technical specialists and write credibly about complex subject matter

Strategic thinking, you can connect a marketing activity to a commercial outcome and explain why.

Commercial curiosity and confidence to hold your own in a room with senior technical leaders

Self-direction, this is a national role with real autonomy and no large team behind you

Useful, but genuinely less important than people assume:

Graphic design, Adobe expertise, social media scheduling, event coordination and marketing automation platforms. These can be learned, supported by our global marketing resources, or outsourced.
