Directors Australia is pleased to be assisting the Australian Packaging Covenant Organisation (APCO) to appoint a non-executive director. Boasting 2,500 members across the packaging ecosystem, APCO is the co-regulatory body administering the Australian Packaging Covenant in supporting Australia’s transition to a circular economy for packaging.

Opportunity

The Australian Packaging Covenant Organisation (APCO) is seeking to appoint a new independent non-executive director.

Key skills and experience being sought

- People and remuneration, including board appointments and nominations for election, performance, remuneration and broader people and culture oversight.
- Corporate governance and strategy, including oversight of major strategic priorities and execution.
- Regulated environment experience, with strong compliance and risk management capability.
- C-suite operational experience, including budget management.
- Committee and Board leadership capability, with experience chairing complex governance forums.
- Exceptional stakeholder management, with the judgement and diplomacy to navigate complex interests while maintaining an outcomes focus.

Independence: APCO’s Constitution requires independent directors to be independent of APCO and its members.



Current employees and officers of member companies are therefore ineligible. Former employees and officers may be considered after a three-year separation period, with consultancy relationships assessed on a case-by-case basis.

Highly desirable skills

- An understanding of the end-to-end value chain in packaging and recycling, or adjacent sectors such as environmental policy, materials science, supply chain, circular economy innovation, regulatory affairs or sustainability
- Demonstrated capability across co-regulatory frameworks and environments
- Understanding of government policy frameworks and experience and/or networks in relevant Commonwealth and state government entities and at ministerial levels
- Technology as it relates to the circular economy, especially data and system measurement
- Strong data driven decision-making capability, using complex data to inform strategy, incentives and regulatory settings

Location

The board is seeking ideally seeking a director based in NSW

Remuneration

$46,296 (including superannuation). An additional fee of $8,225 (including superannuation) is paid for a Committee Chair position.
