Build your Psychology career with the right support around you!
At Avina, we're a national allied health and behaviour support organisation supporting communities across New South Wales, Victoria, Queensland and South Australia.
With a team of 400+ clinicians, we're passionate about delivering meaningful, person-centred services that support people to build independence, confidence and quality of life.
We work across the lifespan delivering Occupational Therapy, Speech Pathology, Physiotherapy, Psychology, Dietetics and Positive Behaviour Support through community, clinic and telehealth settings.
Our values guide how we work every day:
Progressive | Curious | Respectful | Collaborative | Informed | Purposeful
At Avina, we believe great therapy starts with supported clinicians. That's why we've built a structured internship pathway designed to help Provisional Psychologists develop confidence, capability and genuine clinical experience within a collaborative multidisciplinary environment.
Based from our Wollongong office, you'll work across a combination of clinic, community and telehealth settings, giving you exposure to a diverse range of clients, presentations and ways of working.
What the Internship Can Offer You Our structured 12-month internship is designed for Master of Professional Psychology (5+1) graduates from Australian universities who are ready to commence their internship in 2026.
You'll have access to:
- Full AHPRA primary and secondary supervision with no out-of-pocket supervision costs
- Experienced Psychology supervision and leadership support
- Structured onboarding and a gradual clinical ramp-up
- Mentoring and support from Senior and Lead Psychologists
- Diverse clinical experiences to support the development of your AHPRA competencies
- Regular individual and group supervision and peer reflective practice
- Access to professional development and ongoing learning opportunities
- A collaborative multidisciplinary environment with strong peer support
- A mix of clinic, community and telehealth-based service delivery
As part of your role, you'll also become registered to practise as a Behaviour Support Practitioner, with Positive Behaviour Support forming part of your broader caseload. This provides additional exposure to disability and behaviour support practice while your primary professional development remains focused on progressing through your Psychology internship.
Your 12-Month Journey
Your caseload and responsibilities will gradually increase as your confidence and capability develop, supported by regular supervision throughout your internship.
Your experience will include:
- Comprehensive induction, shadowing and practical skills development
- A gradually increasing caseload aligned with your experience and development needs
- Regular clinical and operational supervision
- Group supervision and peer reflective practice
- Psychology assessment, formulation, intervention and report writing
- Exposure to diverse presentations, populations and cross-cultural contexts
- Experience working across disability and community settings
- Exposure to Positive Behaviour Support as part of your broader caseload
- Opportunities to collaborate with participants, families, support networks and other professionals
- Multidisciplinary collaboration with clinicians across allied health and behaviour support
- A combination of Wollongong clinic, community and telehealth work
Work with diverse people and communities
The communities we support are diverse, and we're committed to building a workforce that can provide inclusive, culturally responsive services.
Applicants who bring additional language skills, experience working across cultures or a strong interest in culturally responsive practice are particularly encouraged to apply.
Who We're Looking For
We're looking for Provisional Psychologists who are ready to begin the next stage of their career and available to commence with us in 2026.
You'll bring:
- Completion, or near completion, of a Master of Professional Psychology (5+1) from an Australian university
- Eligibility for provisional registration with AHPRA and the 5+1 internship pathway
- Availability to commence as soon as possible in 2026
- A passion for supporting people across the lifespan, particularly within disability and community settings
- An openness to developing experience in Positive Behaviour Support as part of your caseload
- Strong communication skills with humility, curiosity and a willingness to learn
- A commitment to ethical, person-centred and culturally responsive practice
- Robust organisational and time-management skills
- A driver's licence and access to a reliable vehicle for community-based appointments
- Relevant checks, or willingness to obtain them
Additional language skills and experience working with culturally and linguistically diverse communities are highly regarded, but not essential.
Your Supported Internship Starts Here If you've completed your studies and are ready to start your 5+1 internship, you don't need to wait until the 2027 graduate intake.
Join our Wollongong team in 2026 and build your Psychology career with structured supervision, multidisciplinary support and meaningful clinical experience across clinic and community settings.
If you're ready to get started, we'd love to hear from you.
