The Opportunity

Sante Recruitment is partnering with Tamworth Rural Referral Hospital to appoint a Staff Specialist in Paediatrics.

n

This is an outstanding opportunity to join a major regional referral centre, delivering comprehensive paediatric and neonatal care across a large and diverse catchment in northern New South Wales.

n

You will work within a well-supported multidisciplinary team, contributing to inpatient, outpatient, and neonatal services, while also playing a key role in teaching, service development, and regional outreach.

n

With 282 beds, Tamworth is the largest regional hospital in NSW outside the Sydney–Wollongong–Newcastle corridor, providing a wide range of specialist services.

- 18-bed inpatient unit with 2,600+ admissions annually
n
- Outpatient clinics seeing approximately 5,000 patients per year
n
- Broad case mix including:
n
- Orthopaedics
n
- Gastroenterology
n
- Endocrinology
n
- Oncology
n
- Mental health
n
- Ophthalmology & dental
n

The service is supported by visiting subspecialists from John Hunter Children's Hospital, including:

A strong community allied health team supports developmental assessments and specialty clinics.

Neonatal Services

n

n




- Level 3 Neonatal Service within a Level 4 maternity unit
n
- Management of infants ≥32 weeks or ≥1500g
n
- Initial stabilisation of preterm infants prior to Newborn and Paediatric Emergency Transport Service retrieval
n
- Special Care Nursery providing:
n
- CPAP support
n
- Phototherapy
n
- Feeding and growth management
n
- Sepsis management
n
- Transition care
n

Neonatal care represents a significant proportion of workload, making it a key component of the role.

Requirements

n

n
- Primary medical degree registrable with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency
n
- Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP – General Paediatrics), or
n
- Eligibility via an overseas-trained specialist pathway
