Senior Project Manager – Pathway to Construction Manager

The Chance

EVE Recruitment has partnered with an established and highly regarded commercial fitout and refurbishment contractor who is entering an exciting new phase of growth.

The business has built a strong reputation for delivering high-quality commercial projects and has developed a genuinely collaborative and people-focused culture. With a growing pipeline of larger projects and an ambition to continue scaling, they are now looking for an experienced Senior Project Manager to join the Melbourne team.

This is not simply another Senior Project Manager position.

The successful candidate will have a clear and genuine pathway to Construction Manager within the next 18 months, working closely with senior leadership and playing an important role in supporting the company's continued growth.

The business has traditionally delivered projects up to approximately $10M, however, with larger projects now being secured and the business continuing to expand, they are looking for someone who has already demonstrated the ability to successfully deliver $15M+ projects.

This is an opportunity for an ambitious Senior Project Manager who wants to take the next step in their career and ultimately have greater influence across projects, people, systems and the broader business.

About the Role

As Senior Project Manager, you will take ownership of complex commercial fitout and refurbishment projects from pre-construction through to completion.

You will be trusted to lead from the front, make decisions and deliver strong project outcomes while developing the leadership capability required to progress into a Construction Manager position.

Your responsibilities will include:

Lead commercial fitout and refurbishment projects from pre-construction through to completion

Take full ownership of project budgets, programmes, procurement, contracts, risk and commercial outcomes

Manage projects valued at $15M+ and provide leadership across complex delivery environments

Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, consultants, subcontractors and key stakeholders

Lead and mentor Project Managers, Contract Administrators and wider project teams

Drive procurement, programme and construction methodologies

Identify risks and potential issues early and implement practical, commercially sound solutions

Maintain strong control of project financials, variations, forecasting and cost management





Ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently, commercially and to programme

Support the business as it continues to tender for and secure larger-scale projects

Work closely with senior leadership with increasing responsibility across the broader business

Develop the leadership, commercial and operational capability required to transition into Construction Manager

The Career Pathway

The business is specifically looking for someone who wants to progress beyond project delivery.

The initial focus will be on successfully managing projects and demonstrating your ability to lead teams, clients and commercial outcomes.

As you establish yourself within the business, your responsibilities will progressively expand to include:

Mentoring and developing Project Managers and Contract Administrators

Supporting multiple project teams

Assisting with resource planning and team structure

Contributing to project strategy, systems and processes

Supporting the delivery of larger and more complex projects

Working closely with senior leadership on the continued growth of the Melbourne business

The long-term objective is for the successful candidate to step into a Construction Manager position within approximately 18 months.

This is a genuine succession and progression opportunity rather than a role where career advancement is simply discussed at interview.

About You

We're looking for an experienced and ambitious construction professional who is ready for their next challenge.

You may currently be a Senior Project Manager looking for a transparent pathway into Construction Management, or an experienced Project Manager who is ready to take on greater responsibility.

To be successful, you'll likely have:

Demonstrated experience independently managing projects valued at $15M+

Strong understanding of construction methodology, programming, procurement and project delivery

Strong commercial awareness across contracts, cost control, variations and forecasting

The ability to lead and develop project teams

Confidence managing clients, consultants and subcontractors

Strong communication and stakeholder management skills

A proactive,

The ability to make decisions and take ownership

A genuine interest in developing people and contributing beyond your individual projects

The ambition and capability to progress into a Construction Manager position

Experience with a leading commercial fitout contractor would be highly regarded.
