Job Description
About the job
n
Senior Systems Engineer | Defence | Canberra
n
Canberra
n
n
- Permanent Full-time
n
- NV1/NV2
n
- $160,000–$200,000 TRP (inc. super)
n
n
In less than two years, Eolas has grown from 1 to 23+ Defence and national security professionals. Twelve joined through LinkedIn. We're currently looking for a Senior Systems Engineer to join a high-impact Defence program.
n
For the right candidate, this would be a backfill role on an existing engagement (subject to client approval) — and we're also actively looking to fill several other interesting Defence roles with our clients across Canberra. If you're a strong Systems Engineer, we want to talk to you regardless of which of these ends up being the right fit — we'll work that out together.
n
What Makes You Right for This
n
n
- Strong systems engineering background within Defence acquisition or capability development programs
n
- Comfortable operating in complex, multi-contract, system-of-systems environments
n
- Confident reviewing and endorsing complex engineering documentation — specifications, design packages, technical risk registers
n
- Experience mentoring less senior engineers and building technical capability in a team
n
- Chartered Professional Engineer status is not required — eligibility to attain CPEng is though. Eolas supports and mentors staff through their CPEng application if that's useful to you
n
- Australian citizen with a current NV1 or NV2 clearance
n
- Canberra-based, primarily office-based (Campbell Park Offices) with limited work from home flexibility
n
n
Please note: due to ITAR-related obligations on some of our programs, not all dual-citizenship combinations will be workable for every role.
We're happy to talk through what this means for you in a confidential conversation.
n
What You'll Actually Do
n
n
- Lead development of complex engineering documentation and provide engineering advice and assurance across design, integration, and verification activities
n
- Identify, assess, and manage technical risk, and support governance and delegations frameworks
n
- Represent engineering interests in technical forums, working groups, and formal system reviews with contractors and stakeholders
n
- Mentor and develop engineers earlier in their career, and help grow our talent pipeline more broadly
n
- Collaborate across discipline streams to keep engineering inputs aligned with program objectives
n
n
Why Eolas
n
At Eolas, you won't be rewarded for looking busy. You'll be recognised for what you deliver and how you deliver it. We're also serious about building a genuinely fun, safe and welcoming home for our consultants — not just a talent supply chain. We're developing a formal Career Management Framework to support that, and we'll be sharing more on it soon. Three values shape our work:
n
n
- Own It. See a problem, fix it. Take responsibility, follow through, and make things better.
n
- Focus on What Matters. Transparent the noise. If something doesn't move the needle, challenge it or change it.
n
- Create Together. Respect what the client knows, bring what you know, and shape the solution together.
n
n
Ready to Join a Team Doing Things Differently? We're not looking for contractors, we're looking for full-time, permanent staff. People who see what needs doing, take responsibility, and get results.
n
Eolas Solutions. Less noise. More clarity. Real outcomes.
n
We actively encourage applications from veterans and professionals from diverse backgrounds.
