As a Clinical Assistant, you’ll play a vital role in delivering high-quality pathology services to patients across the Bundaberg region. Your day will be varied, with opportunities to use and build your skills across phlebotomy, specimen reception and processing, specimen packaging and referral, stock control and laboratory support. You’ll be responsible for collecting high-quality blood specimens from both inpatients and outpatients, following Pathology Queensland protocols and ensuring every sample is handled accurately and efficiently. You’ll also assist scientific staff with a range of diagnostic testing activities, making this a great opportunity for someone who enjoys working as part of a busy, multidisciplinary laboratory team.

Key competencies (role specific criteria)

You will be assessed on your ability to demonstrate the following:

- Demonstrated experience or ability to acquire experience in the correct procedures of specimen collection/phlebotomy including the application of established policies and guidelines with minimal supervision.
- Demonstrated knowledge or the ability to acquire knowledge of the importance of standard precautions in dealing with patients and biological specimens.
- Demonstrated experience or ability to acquire experience in the correct procedures of preanalytical processing of specimens for laboratory analysis.
- Proven ability to follow instructions and work conscientiously and accurately with minimal supervision after careful instruction.
- Proven ability to work effectively as a member of a team and to communicate effectively with clients, clinical staff and colleagues.
- Positive focus upon patient care within a hospital health care environment.
- Demonstrate a high level of commitment to the principles of quality management and continuous quality improvement.
- Demonstrate the ability to work accurately and give attention to detail.
