Emama Nguda Aboriginal Corporation (ENAC) is seeking an experienced and hands-on Aquaculture Operations & Hatchery Manager to lead its aquaculture enterprise in Derby, Western Australia.

This is an opportunity to help develop a culturally significant and commercially sustainable freshwater prawn, or jarramba, operation that creates meaningful training and employment opportunities for Aboriginal people in and around Derby.

Reporting to the Operations Services Manager, you will oversee technical hatchery activities and day-to-day farm operations while leading employees and trainees, maintaining safe and compliant systems, and driving reliable production outcomes.

What You Will Be Doing

- Manage broodstock collection, broodstock care, larval rearing, live feed cultures and stock husbandry.
- Lead hatchery production, trials, recirculation systems, pond activities and animal-health monitoring.
- Develop and implement daily, weekly and seasonal operational work plans.
- Supervise, coach and develop aquaculture employees, farm hands and trainees.
- Maintain safe work systems, environmental monitoring, hygiene, biosecurity and emergency response arrangements.
- Manage maintenance requirements for hatchery facilities, equipment, vehicles and vessels.
- Prepare budgets, forecasts, production records, compliance documentation and operational reports.
- Coordinate licences, production returns, fish-health sampling and other regulatory requirements.
- Build productive relationships with community members, suppliers, training providers, regulators and research partners.

What You Will Bring

- Commercial aquaculture, hatchery or aquatic animal production experience.
- Practical knowledge of broodstock, larval rearing, live feed systems and stock husbandry.
- Experience leading operational staff, trainees or a hands-on workforce.
- Strong planning, problem-solving, record-keeping and reporting capability.
- Knowledge of safety, environmental, biosecurity and compliance requirements.




- Experience working to production targets and budgets.
- Confident communication and stakeholder-engagement skills.
- Microsoft Office capability and a current C Class Driver’s Licence.
- The ability to work independently and flexibly in a regional operating environment.

Selection Criteria
Essential

- Demonstrated experience in commercial aquaculture, hatchery operations or aquatic animal production.
- Experience managing broodstock, larval rearing, hatchery production systems, live feed cultures and stock husbandry.
- Proven leadership experience supervising, coordinating and developing operational staff or trainees.
- Demonstrated ability to plan day-to-day operations, set priorities and work safely in a practical, hands-on environment.
- Knowledge of work health and safety, environmental monitoring, biosecurity and operational compliance requirements.
- Experience managing budgets, monitoring production targets and preparing operational or technical reports.
- Strong record-keeping, problem-solving and evidence-based decision-making skills.
- Effective communication and relationship-management skills, including the ability to work with community, industry and government stakeholders.
- Competency in Microsoft Office,



including Word, Excel and Outlook.
- Ability to work independently, respond to operational issues and work flexibly when production or hatchery needs require it.

Desirable

- Experience working with Aboriginal people and communities.
- Experience living or working in remote or regional locations.
- Experience with freshwater prawn, cherabin, barramundi or comparable species.
- Knowledge of aquaculture licensing and regulatory reporting.
- Experience developing trainees or supporting workforce participation programs.

Pre-employment Requirements

- Australian working rights.
- Current C Class Driver’s Licence.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a National Police Clearance and Working with Children Check.
- Satisfactory pre-employment medical and drug and alcohol screening.
