About Opportunity
Our client, a large Federal Government department, is seeking an experienced Lead Microservices & AI Technical Architect to provide technical leadership for the design, governance, and evolution of cloud-native, microservices-based, and AI-enabled platforms. The successful consultant will influence engineering decisions, guide the adoption of AI across the software delivery lifecycle, and drive technology modernisation initiatives that support secure, scalable, and resilient business-critical systems.
This exciting opportunity sits within a major business application transformation program establishing enterprise Microservices and Event-driven Architecture foundations while embedding AI-enabled engineering practices across software delivery. The role offers the opportunity to work on cutting-edge technologies and contribute to significant digital transformation outcomes.
Location: ACT, Australia (Hybrid with remote candidates considered)
Key Requirements
- Australian Citizenship is mandatory.
- Current Baseline Clearance is desirable but not mandatory.

Key duties and responsibilities
- Provide technical leadership and architectural governance for cloud-native, microservices, event-driven, and AI-enabled platforms.
- Establish modern engineering practices including AI-enabled SDLC, DevSecOps, CI/CD, observability, automated testing, and platform engineering standards.
- Lead technology modernisation initiatives and platform adoption activities.
- Drive the implementation of scalable, reliable, secure, and resilient solutions.
- Guide architecture decisions and influence technical direction across delivery teams.
- Build organisational capability through mentoring, knowledge transfer, and engineering governance.
- Foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement
Required Qualifications and Skills
Demonstrated experience and capability in enterprise architecture, microservices, AI engineering, and modern software delivery practices, including:
- Extensive experience designing and governing cloud-native, microservices, and event-driven architectures within complex enterprise environments.
- Strong expertise in AI engineering and AI-enabled solution delivery.
- Experience delivering enterprise AI capabilities,
machine learning solutions, semantic search, and responsible AI initiatives.
- Strong software engineering and platform engineering background.
- Experience with DevSecOps, CI/CD, automated testing, observability, and security-by-design principles.
- Demonstrated success leading large-scale technology transformation programs.
- Exceptional stakeholder engagement, leadership, and communication skills.
Desirable Skills
- Kubernetes, OpenShift, AKS, EKS, or GKE platform experience.
- Cloud platform modernisation and Site Reliability Engineering (SRE).
- Enterprise-scale automation and observability tooling.
- Agile delivery leadership and coaching of geographically dispersed teams.
- Experience driving engineering capability uplift and continuous improvement initiatives.
