ABOUT THE ROLE
South Gippsland Shire Council is seeking an experienced and contemporary Health, Safety and Wellbeing professional to lead the delivery of our workplace safety strategy and foster a positive safety culture across the organisation.
Reporting to the Manager People & Culture, the Coordinator Health, Safety & Wellbeing will lead a dedicated team and provide expert advice, guidance and support to leaders and employees across Council. This influential role is responsible for ensuring Council's health, safety and wellbeing systems, programs and practices and meet legislative requirements while driving continuous improvement and best practice outcomes.
- Full Time Ongoing Position
- Band 8 - $122,701.83 + 12% Superannuation
- Based at various locations across the Shire
As the subject matter expert for Health, Safety and Wellbeing, you will:
- Lead the ongoing development and improvement of Council's Health, Safety & Wellbeing Management System.
- Provide specialist advice on workplace health and safety, injury management, risk management and incident investigations.
- Monitor legislative changes and ensure organisational compliance with relevant OHS legislation and regulatory requirements.
- Analyse health, safety and wellbeing data and provide reporting, insights and recommendations to senior leaders, the Executive Leadership Team, OHS Committee and Audit & Risk Committee.
- Develop, review and implement policies, procedures and frameworks that support safe work practices.
- Oversee workplace inspections, audits,
risk assessments and contractor safety compliance.
- Coordinate Council's emergency management program and evacuation processes.
- Lead and support employee health and wellbeing initiatives.
- Build solid and productive relationships with leaders, employees and stakeholders to promote a proactive safety culture.
ABOUT YOU
You are a strategic and hands-on safety professional who can influence, coach and partner effectively with leaders across a diverse organisation.
To be successful in this role, you will bring:
- Tertiary qualifications in Occupational Health & Safety or a related discipline and/or extensive relevant experience.
- Strong knowledge of contemporary OHS legislation, regulations and best practice.
- Demonstrated experience developing, implementing and maintaining health and safety management systems.
- Experience leading safety improvement projects and driving organisational change.
- Strong analytical, reporting and problem-solving capabilities.
- Exceptional communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Experience using technology and digital systems to improve safety outcomes and operational efficiency.
- A collaborative leadership style with the ability to motivate and develop team members
