The Opportunity
We’re looking for an Accountant to join our growing Business Services team in Melbourne.
This is a great opportunity for someone who is looking to build their technical capability, gain greater exposure to clients and continue progressing their career within a supportive and experienced team.
You’ll work across a diverse portfolio of clients, including operating businesses, high net worth individuals and family groups, preparing financial statements and income tax returns and assisting with a broad range of accounting, taxation and advisory matters.
Working closely with experienced Senior Accountants, Managers and Directors, you’ll have the opportunity to learn from senior professionals, develop your client-facing skills and gradually take on greater responsibility as your experience grows.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare financial statements and income tax returns for a range of entities, including companies, trusts, partnerships and individuals.
- Prepare BAS, IAS, Fringe Benefits Tax (FBT) returns and assist with other compliance requirements.
- Complete account reconciliations and supporting workpapers accurately and efficiently.
- Assist with tax planning and other taxation matters.
- Gather and analyse client information and ensure work is prepared accurately for review.
- Liaise with clients to obtain information and respond to queries.
- Follow allocated compliance work through to lodgement with the ATO, where appropriate.
- Assist senior team members with more complex client matters and engagements.
- Develop an understanding of clients’ businesses and identify matters requiring further investigation or advice.
- Work collaboratively with the wider Business Services team and contribute to the delivery of high-quality client outcomes.
- Continue developing your technical knowledge and client relationship skills with support and mentoring from experienced team members.
About You
You’re a motivated Accountant who enjoys learning, takes pride in producing high-quality work and is looking for an environment where you can continue building your career.
You’re comfortable working as part of a team, enjoy developing relationships with clients and are keen to broaden your technical knowledge and take on increasing responsibility as you progress.
Essential Skills and Experience
- 1–4 years of experience within an Australian accounting or Business Services practice.
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Commerce, Accounting or a related discipline.
- Currently studying towards your CA or CPA qualification.
- Experience preparing financial statements and income tax returns.
- Exposure to a range of entity types, including companies, trusts, partnerships and individuals.
- Sound understanding of Australian taxation and accounting principles appropriate to your level of experience.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing accurate work.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong IT skills, including proficiency in Excel, with experience in Xero highly regarded.
- A collaborative approach and willingness to learn from and contribute to the wider team.
