- Position Brief - City Laws Officer
As a City Laws Officer, no two days are the same. You’ll work across the Gold Coast community, responding to a diverse range of regulatory matters and helping ensure our public spaces are safe, accessible and enjoyable for everyone.

About the team:
The City Laws team provides education and enforcement services across a diverse range of Local and State Laws to protect the safety, accessibility and amenity for the City’s residents and visitors.
About the role:
City Laws Officers provide a multi-skilled service administering, investigating, enforcing and prosecuting a wide range of matters under relevant State and Local Government Legislation, Laws, Regulations and Policies within the City of the Gold Coast.
City Laws is recruiting multiple full-time City Laws Officers to regulate a range of Local Laws across these key areas:
- General City Law Officer duties including, but not limited to, abandoned vehicles, public amenity and regulation, public space compliance and interference with a road.
- Regulation of local law breaches by people experiencing homelessness
- Illegal Camping (noting these officers are required to work their shift during the hours of 4pm – 12pm).
Key Responsibilities:
- Conducting investigations and inspections and providing timely responses to a broad range of complaints.
- Gathering evidence, taking statements, conducting interviews and providing evidence in court.
- Delivering proportionate and equitable regulatory action through issuing warnings, compliance notices, human rights assessments and infringement notices to those who don’t do the right thing.
- Recording and maintaining clear records and evidence of interactions, activities and outcomes.
- Produce written reports and submissions and prepare briefs for prosecution of offences under relevant State Government legislation and Acts and Council local laws and regulations.
- Act in accordance with the City’s high performance principles and deliver excellence in workplace safety.
About you:
- Ability and availability to work a 4:00pm to 12:00am shift.
- Demonstrated high-level investigation skills with the ability to manage complex cases.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including report writing and conflict resolution.
- Strong organisational skills, with the ability to manage a high volume of work efficiently.
- Proficiency in the use of technology for investigations, reporting, and data management.
- Confidence dealing with a diverse range of people and situations.
- The ability to remain calm, professional and respectful when dealing with challenging behaviour.
- An understanding of, or willingness to learn, relevant legislation, local laws, regulations and enforcement processes.
- A commitment to fairness, integrity, accountability and community safety.
- Previous experience in regulatory compliance, investigations, enforcement, local government, policing or a similar workplace will be highly regarded.
- Possess a current C Class driver’s licence.
