About the role
As Senior Travel Manager, you will initially be responsible for the operational delivery of trips sold by the CEO. The CEO will continue to lead sales and the primary client relationship. Your role will be to take those sales and turn them into exceptional, commercially sound and operationally seamless African journeys. As the business grows, your role will grow with it. For the right person, there is an opportunity to progressively take responsibility for sales and client management, become a senior leader within Adventure Out Loud and potentially participate in the ownership of the business.
Key responsibilities
- Develop detailed, personalised African itineraries and translate client requirements into practical, bookable journeys
- Select appropriate accommodation, activities, guides, transport and experiences, and build logical routing considering travel time, flights, transfers and operational realities
- Manage bookings across multiple suppliers and destinations, coordinating accommodation, flights, transfers, guides, activities, permits and other travel services
- Develop strong relationships with African suppliers, negotiate rates and terms, and monitor supplier performance
- Prepare detailed trip budgets and costing, ensure itineraries achieve required margins, and monitor the financial performance of individual trips
- Progressively take responsibility for the operational workflow and team, including allocating tasks, reviewing work, establishing quality standards, and training staff
- Document and improve operational procedures, develop templates and checklists, and identify opportunities for automation
- Ensure final travel documentation is accurate and complete, and solve operational problems when required
About you
- Minimum 5 years' experience working as a travel consultant, travel designer, travel manager, travel operations professional or similar
- Genuine experience travelling in, selling and operating travel within Africa, with comfort discussing African destinations, accommodation,
logistics, transport and travel styles across multiple countries
- Demonstrated experience designing or managing detailed, multi-day itineraries involving multiple destinations, suppliers and modes of transport
- Strong understanding of complex travel arrangements, multi-supplier bookings, itinerary design, travel logistics, customer service, budgets and margins, and supplier management
- Comfortable working remotely and independently, taking ownership, prioritising competing deadlines, communicating proactively, and solving problems
- Desirable: Luxury or tailor-made travel experience, extensive African safari experience, East and Southern Africa expertise, experience working with high-value clients, experience managing or mentoring travel consultants, experience in a small business or entrepreneurial environment, experience improving operational systems and processes, experience with Xero, Monday.com, or strong Google Workspace skills
