About the role
As the Senior Credit Manager, you will lead the oversight of credit risk across Housing Australia's lending portfolio, providing expert advice on credit assessments, portfolio monitoring and risk management. Supporting Executive and Board decision-making, you will play a key role in maintaining robust credit frameworks, identifying emerging risks, and ensuring sound lending practices that support the organisation's objectives.
Key responsibilities
- Provide independent credit risk oversight, including reviewing and challenging complex lending transactions, financial assumptions and risk assessments, while delivering trusted advice to support Executive and Committee decision-making.
- Own and enhance credit risk frameworks, maintaining policies, standards, risk appetite settings and methodologies to ensure robust credit governance and alignment with regulatory and accounting requirements.
- Monitor portfolio performance and emerging risks, overseeing credit quality, concentrations and early warning indicators, and delivering portfolio insights and recommendations to senior leadership and the Board.
- Lead credit risk analytics and methodology, including oversight of credit rating models, expected credit loss (ECL) methodologies, risk metrics and continuous improvement of credit risk measurement and reporting.
- Drive governance, reporting and risk culture, preparing high-quality Board and Committee papers, providing independent challenge, uplifting credit risk standards,
and promoting a strong risk culture across the organisation.
Skills and experience
- Extensive credit risk experience, with a strong background in credit assessment, portfolio risk management and independent credit review within banking, institutional lending or financial services environments.
- Strong analytical and commercial judgement, with the ability to assess complex transactions, challenge assumptions, identify emerging risks and provide clear, balanced risk recommendations.
- Deep knowledge of credit risk frameworks and methodologies, including risk appetite, credit policies, risk ratings, portfolio monitoring, expected credit loss (ECL) concepts and regulatory requirements.
- Exceptional stakeholder engagement and communication skills, with proven experience providing independent advice and presenting risk insights to Executive, Board and Committee forums.
- Proven leadership and influencing capability, with the ability to strengthen risk culture, uplift credit risk practices and mentor others in credit analysis, risk assessment and governance disciplines. Relevant tertiary qualifications in Finance, Commerce, Economics or a related discipline are highly regarded.
