About the team

5 North (5N) is a 22 bed medical, surgical and palliative ward providing inpatient care specialising in Women’s Health, Gynae-oncology and Breast Cancer.

The Women’s hospital offers treatment for all gynaecological conditions and is a tertiary referral centre for women with chronic pelvic pain, dysfunctional uterine bleeding and issues related to menopause, pelvic floor problems or other uro-gynaecological problems. Women with medical complications in the early part of pregnancy are cared for by the gynaecology units. 5N also cares for women who are having a termination of pregnancy or who have complications related to reproductive biology such as IVF. We care for women requiring surgical, medical and palliative care for gynaecological cancers including ovarian, endometrial and cervical cancers.

Complex Care Unit

The Complex Care unit (CCU) is within 5N and cares for women with complex medical and surgical nursing needs from cancer, gynaecology and maternity services. The unit is staffed by nursing staff who have undertaken the CCU course and training.

About the role

As a Registered Nurses you will be responsible for strengthening health outcomes through the provision of protected, quality, holistic and sensitive care, from admission to discharge. You will work collaboratively in partnership with patients, consumers and other health professionals. You will support the Unit Manager and AUM group in promoting service development, quality assurance and the provision of a safe and supportive workplace. In addition,



you will be responsible for ongoing clinical management of patients and for providing a high standard of nursing care.

A regular day will see you:

- Undertake an evaluation of individual health and functional status, recognising normal and abnormal signs and symptoms obtained through observation, interview, physical examination and assessment.
- Clearly communicate patient assessments, care plans and any related concerns to the nurse in charge, nursing team, medical team and relevant members of the multidisciplinary team or other departments within a timely manner.
- Collaborate with members of the multidisciplinary team to ensure optimal service delivery in terms of efficiency, effectiveness, and quality
- Work within your scope of practice and competency level and to clearly communicate to the nurse in charge any concerns around patient or task allocation

You will be someone with excellent communication skills and the ability to work in a fast-paced team workplace.

- Demonstration of excellent interpersonal skills and well-developed written and electronic communication skills
- Technical skills related to the management of acute symptoms
- Clinical experience in acute health sector with a commitment to evidence-based outcomes
- Demonstrates critical and reflective thinking skills

- Able to work a rotating roster including AM, PM and night duty shifts
- Able to foster open and supportive relationships with your team, and contribute to positive staff morale and team cohesiveness
