About the role

Albany’s Historic Whaling Station is seeking a friendly and reliable Retail Assistant and Tour Guide to join our team.

The role is primarily based in our gift shop and ticketing area, providing excellent customer service, processing admissions and retail sales, maintaining displays and assisting visitors with information about the site. The position also includes delivering guided tours for coach groups, private bookings and special events.

Key responsibilities
Welcome visitors and provide information about the attraction
Process admission tickets and retail purchases using the point-of-sale system
Assist with customer enquiries, purchases and refunds
Handle cash and complete opening, closing and reconciliation procedures
Maintain an attractive, clean and well-organised retail area
Promote gift shop products and experiences available across the site
Deliver engaging guided tours for coach groups, private bookings and special events
Develop your knowledge of the site through ongoing research and training

About you

We are looking for someone who has:




Solid retail and customer service skills
A friendly, confident and approachable manner
Clear communication and public-speaking skills
Experience using a point-of-sale system and handling cash
An interest in history, tourism, whales or the natural setting
The ability to work independently and as part of a team
Flexibility to work weekends and public holidays as required
