The Role
OpenTrain is seeking a Mechanical Engineering Assessment Writer to create rigorous graduate-level multiple-choice questions, detailed answer explanations, and choice-by-choice rationales.
You will also review AI-generated mechanical engineering materials for technical accuracy and pedagogical quality.
The work spans Solid & Structural Mechanics, Dynamics & Vibration & Control, and Thermal-Fluids.
You will refine submissions through quality checks, revisions, enhancements,



and collaborative feedback while maintaining organized records in digital workflow tools.
This is an entry-level AI training opportunity for qualified mechanical engineering specialists.
The role requires 20+ hours per week and pays $60-$130 per hour, with an hourly rate of up to $130 based on the applicable rate for the work.

What You'll Do
You will produce exam-quality content that tests advanced mechanical engineering understanding and helps AI systems learn from precise, well-explained examples.
Strong judgment and careful review are central to the role.
Design rigorous single-option multiple-choice assessment questions in your mechanical engineering specialty.
Write detailed explanations and rationales for every answer choice.
Review and validate the technical accuracy of AI-generated engineering materials.
Improve contributed work through revisions, enhancements, and quality checks.
Collaborate asynchronously with contributors and reviewers.
Maintain organized records using digital workflow tools.
Requirements




Applicants should combine advanced mechanical engineering education with university-level teaching and assessment experience.
You must be able to turn complex principles into clear, technically accurate written material for graduate-level learners.
PhD or MS in Mechanical Engineering.
University-level teaching experience as a professor, adjunct, lecturer, or teaching assistant.
Teaching experience in Solid & Structural Mechanics, Dynamics & Vibration & Control, or Thermal-Fluids.
Experience authoring, grading, or reviewing graduate-level exams, problem sets, or coursework.
Ability to write precise, exam-quality explanations and answer-choice rationales.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Excellent attention to technical accuracy and detail.
Comfort working independently in a remote, asynchronous environment.
