The Role
The ABC is looking for a Local Communities Reporter to join the NSW News team in Parramatta.
This unique role combines original journalism with the opportunity to deliver distinctive content that reflects the experiences, challenges and achievements of Indigenous communities across NSW.
Working across digital, social and broadcast platforms, you'll identify and produce engaging stories and build strong community relationships.
You'll collaborate with reporters, producers and editors across the newsroom to ensure diverse voices and perspectives are represented in ABC News coverage.
The Job
Research, gather and produce original stories for digital, social and broadcast platforms.
Develop and maintain strong relationships with First Nations communities and organisations across Sydney and NSW.
Generate impactful story ideas and identify emerging issues affecting local communities.
Work collaboratively with newsroom teams to develop innovative, audience-focused storytelling.
Use audience insights and analytics to inform content strategies and maximise engagement.

About You




You're a skilled journalist with a passion for telling stories that reflect the diversity of contemporary Australia.
You have a strong understanding of Indigenous communities and issues affecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, combined with the ability to build trusted relationships and uncover meaningful stories.
You'll have:
Experience reporting on Indigenous communities and issues affecting diverse communities across NSW.
Robust digital, broadcast and social media storytelling skills, with the ability to engage audiences across multiple platforms.
