The Opportunity
This organisation has successfully operated within the civil construction industry for more than 60 years, delivering urban development projects across Melbourne and building annual revenues approaching $300 million.
As part of its long-term growth strategy, the business is establishing a standalone operation in South Australia and is seeking an experienced General Manager to lead the venture.
While the Adelaide business will operate independently, it will benefit from access to the experience, systems, resources and support of an established and highly successful organisation when required. This creates a unique opportunity to build a business from the ground up while having the backing of a proven industry leader.
The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in establishing the Adelaide business, developing its client base, building a high-performing team and creating a sustainable, profitable operation with its own identity and culture within the South Australian market.
The Role
This is a true business leadership role with full responsibility for developing and growing the South Australian operation.
Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, you will have significant autonomy in setting the direction of the Adelaide business and will be responsible for business development, project acquisition, commercial performance, client relationships,



operational delivery and people leadership.
Unlike many leadership roles, this position offers the opportunity to build a business from the ground up. You will have the ability to establish the local market presence, recruit key personnel, develop strategic relationships and shape the culture and future direction of the business.
The Victorian business will provide support, guidance and corporate resources when required, however day-to-day leadership, decision-making and growth of the South Australian business will sit firmly with the General Manager.
You will be responsible for:
Establishing and growing the standalone South Australian business
Developing and executing the business strategy for the Adelaide operation
Building relationships with developers, consultants, councils and industry partners
Securing a sustainable pipeline of urban development and civil infrastructure projects
Working closely with estimating and pre-contract teams to select and pursue suitable opportunities
Recruiting, mentoring and developing a high-performing local team
Managing project delivery, profitability and commercial outcomes
Building a strong business culture aligned with the organisation's values
Creating a respected and recognised civil construction brand within South Australia
About You




We are seeking a proven civil construction leader who combines strong commercial capability with an entrepreneurial mindset.
You may currently be working as a General Manager, State Manager, Operations Manager, Construction Manager or senior leader within the civil construction sector and be looking for the opportunity to take full ownership of a business.
Ideally, you will possess:
Strong knowledge of the South Australian civil construction and urban development market
Established relationships across developers, consultants, councils and industry stakeholders
Demonstrated experience leading profitable civil construction operations
Robust business development and client relationship skills
Proven ability to build and lead high-performing teams
Commercial acumen with an understanding of tendering, project delivery and financial management
The drive and resilience required to build a business in a competitive market
Most importantly, you will embrace a leadership style built on relationships, loyalty, accountability and looking after people.
