The Department of Justice and Community Safety is seeking two Knowledge Translation Project Officers to provide a critical role within Gambling, Liquor and Tobacco.
About the business unit
The Gambling, Liquor and Tobacco business unit supports the regulation of gambling, liquor and tobacco in Victoria, to minimise the harms these products can cause and contribute positively to the Victorian economy.
delivering and further developing the Victorian Government's strategic response to gambling, liquor and tobacco issues
developing and implementing the government's policy on major gambling licensing processes
delivering a research and evaluation program to inform responses to gambling harm in Victoria.
It advises the Minister for Casino, Gaming and Liquor Regulation and is the primary government point of reference for industry, community and government on gambling and liquor issues.
The Gambling Harm Evidence & Response branch helps to reduce gambling harm by:
building the evidence base through a targeted research agenda and an associated research grants program
sharing the body of gambling knowledge to inform responses to gambling harm
evaluating gambling harm programs, services and policy responses to ensure continual improvement
coordinating the Whole-of-Victorian-Government Gambling Harm Prevention and Response Model.
About the role
Reporting to the Senior Program Manager - Gambling Harm Prevention & Response, the Knowledge Translation Project Officer plays a key role in maximising the reach and impact of gambling harm knowledge, including so that this knowledge can effectively inform policy development, program and service delivery.
In doing so, the Knowledge Translation Project Officer will work collaboratively with colleagues across the unit and across government via the Gambling Harm Prevention and Response Model.
Drawing on their own sound knowledge of the available evidence, as well as new and emerging trends, the Knowledge Translation Project Officer will also play a key role in providing evidence-based advice through correspondence, reports, submissions, briefings, discussion papers and other documents.
Some of your duties will include:
supporting the implementation of processes to enable the ongoing monitoring of gambling and gambling harm in Australia and oversees, to identify key issues and opportunities to inform Victoria's response to gambling harm
supporting gambling harm knowledge mobilisation activities,
including developing and trialing new initiatives to maximise the reach and impact of information sharing related to gambling harm
investigating issues and preparing written documentation on complex and, at times, sensitive issues, including Ministerial correspondence, reports, submissions, briefings and discussion papers.
About you
To be successful in this role, you will have:
demonstrated research and analysis skills, including well developed written communication skills and technical expertise in qualitative and / or quantitative research methods
demonstrated experience in translating technical research reports for wider audiences
experience in knowledge mobilisation.
Qualifications / requirements
A tertiary qualification within a public health, social sciences, or other relevant discipline is required.
A research focus is highly desirable.
