The Opportunity

Western NSW LHD is seeking skilled GP VMOs with Emergency Medicine experience to provide locum cover across regional hospitals and multipurpose health services.

You will manage a broad range of emergency and acute presentations, supported by experienced nursing staff, retrieval teams and visiting specialists.
This role is ideal for rural generalists who thrive in hands-on, high-autonomy environments and enjoy the diversity of regional Emergency Medicine.

Clinical Setting

You will work across regional Emergency Departments and rural health settings within Western NSW LHD, with broad clinical exposure and strong locum support.

- High-value exposure – manage undifferentiated emergency and acute cases in regional EDs
- Broad scope of practice – support presentations ranging from primary care to trauma and critical care
- Strong clinical support – collaborate with local nursing, retrieval and specialist networks
- Flexible scheduling – choose ad-hoc shifts or block bookings around your availability
- Fully supported locum – travel, accommodation and hire car provided

Patient Demographic

You will support a broad regional patient mix, including adults, older patients, families, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, acute presentations, trauma, chronic disease complications and patients requiring assessment, stabilisation, escalation or transfer.

Key Duties

- Provide GP VMO ED cover within scope
- Assess and manage emergency and acute presentations
- Support primary care, trauma and critical care presentations where required
- Coordinate escalation, retrieval or transfer when needed
- Complete clinical documentation and handover
- Work collaboratively with nursing,



retrieval and specialist teams

Requirements

- AHPRA Specialist Registration
- Proven experience managing emergency presentations
- NSW Working with Children Check and Police Check
- Australian working rights
- Willingness to complete local credentialing and onboarding

Successful referrals can receive a $1,100 prepaid gift card for non-specialist doctors, or $1,600 for specialist/consultant referrals, once the referred doctor has completed the required shifts.
