About Us
1 Service Group is a Sydney-based building services company specialising in the maintenance, testing, compliance and rectification of fire protection, hydraulic/plumbing and mechanical systems.
We work across major infrastructure, transport, tunnel, rail, industrial and commercial environments throughout Sydney.
Due to continued growth, we are seeking an experienced Service Manager to take ownership of the day-to-day operation of our service department.
The Role
This is a hands-on operational management position responsible for ensuring our service work is properly planned, resourced, delivered, documented and completed.
You will manage the workflow from the time a job enters the service department through to technical completion and handover for invoicing.
Working closely with our General Manager, supervisors, technicians and service administration team, you will be responsible for coordinating both planned and reactive works while maintaining a high standard of client service.
Key Responsibilities
Your responsibilities will include:
- Managing the day-to-day operations of the service department
- Coordinating planned maintenance, reactive service, breakdowns, defects and minor works
- Managing and supporting field technicians and supervisors
- Planning labour and resources for day, night and shutdown/closure works
- Monitoring technician workloads, productivity, overtime and job progress
- Ensuring technicians are properly briefed and prepared before attending works
- Reviewing completed service reports, test documentation, photos and field information
- Ensuring jobs are properly completed and ready for invoicing
- Reviewing defects identified in the field and coordinating quotation and rectification
- Providing first-line technical and operational support to field staff
- Liaising directly with clients regarding scheduling, progress, defects and service issues
- Coordinating specialist subcontractors and suppliers where required
- Assisting with preparation and review of service and rectification quotations
- Monitoring outstanding jobs, return visits and unapproved works
- Ensuring works are undertaken in accordance with relevant Australian Standards, client requirements and company procedures
- Maintaining a strong focus on safety, quality and customer service
- Identifying opportunities to improve service delivery and operational efficiency
About You
We are looking for someone who can take ownership.
You will be comfortable managing technicians, dealing directly with clients and making day-to-day operational decisions without requiring constant direction.
Ideally, you will have:
- Previous experience in a Service Manager, Service Supervisor, Operations Supervisor or similar role
- Experience within the fire protection, plumbing/hydraulic, mechanical/HVAC or broader building services industry
- Strong experience coordinating field technicians and service work
- Good technical understanding of maintenance and compliance environments
- Strong organisational and problem-solving skills
- The ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-moving service environment
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Confidence dealing directly with clients, technicians and subcontractors
- Good computer skills and experience with service management software
- Experience with Simpro would be highly regarded
- Current Australian driver's licence
Experience within major infrastructure, road tunnels, rail, transport or other critical environments would be highly regarded but is not essential.
What We're Looking For
This role will suit someone who doesn't simply wait for jobs to be allocated.
We want someone who follows things through.
If a technician identifies a defect, you make sure it is documented and progressed. If a job requires a return visit, you make sure it happens. If information is missing, you chase it. If a client needs an update, you provide it.
You will have the authority and support to run the day-to-day service operation while escalating significant technical, commercial or contractual matters to senior management.
What We Offer
- Senior operational position within a growing Sydney business
- Exposure to major infrastructure and transport projects
- Variety across fire, hydraulic and mechanical services
- Support from experienced technical and management personnel
- Long-term career opportunity
- Market-competitive salary package based on experience
- Company vehicle can be negotiated for the right candidate
If you are an experienced service professional looking to take ownership of a busy service operation and become an important part of a growing business, we would like to hear from you.
Apply with your resume and a brief outline of your relevant service management experience.
