Nacap is seeking an experienced Design Manager to support the delivery of a major wind farm project in Western Australia. You'll lead multidisciplinary design coordination, technical assurance and construction readiness, ensuring practical, secure and buildable solutions from detailed design through to as-built handover.
Based in Melbourne with FIFO travel to Badgingarra, Western Australia, this role will require a commitment to the project roster throughout the project lifecycle, particularly during the construction phase.
Reporting to the Engineering Manager and working closely with the Project Manager and Construction Manager, you will coordinate multidisciplinary consultants and technical interfaces across the project, helping drive successful delivery of this significant renewable energy development.
What you will do
You will directly influence design quality, construction readiness and successful project delivery through:
- Leading the design process from detailed design through construction support, completion and as-built documentation.
- Coordinating civil, structural, geotechnical, electrical and specialist design interfaces across the wind farm balance-of-plant scope.
- Administering the Design Management Plan, design program, deliverables register, responsibility and interface matrices, review gates and approval workflows.
- Driving design reviews, interdisciplinary checks, constructability reviews, client reviews and technical assurance, ensuring actions and comments are closed out promptly.
- Providing technical leadership and assurance so design outputs comply with project requirements, standards, approvals and contractual obligations.
- Working closely with site teams to identify and resolve technical issues.
- Managing RFIs, technical queries, design changes etc.
through to final acceptance and handover.
- Leading Safety in Design and administer Temporary Works requirements.
The Wind Farm Scope
You will coordinate the civil and multidisciplinary balance-of-plant design, including:
- Bulk earthworks, mass haul and site grading.
- Access roads, pavements and heavy-haul routes.
- Drainage and water management infrastructure.
- Crane hardstands, platforms and lifting interfaces.
- Large wind turbine foundations and associated geotechnical interfaces.
- Electrical reticulation, substation and transmission connection interfaces.
- Turbine supplier requirements, environmental constraints, approvals and construction methodology.
What you bring?
You bring the following skills, experience and expertise;
- A practical design leader who can bring people together, challenge assumptions and maintain momentum in a complex delivery environment. You will combine sound technical judgement with commercial discipline and a clear understanding of what works on site.
- A recognised degree in Civil Engineering or an equivalent relevant engineering discipline.
- Minimum 7 years post-graduate engineering experience, including design management experience as a Design Lead, Design Coordinator or Design Manager.
- Wind farm, renewable energy or major civil infrastructure project experience.
- Experience with wind farm roads, earthworks, drainage, crane hardstands, heavy-haul routes and large foundations.
- Knowledge of geotechnical and foundation interfaces, ground improvement, piling, slope stability and retaining systems.
- Experience in EPC, EPCM or design and construct environments, particularly with contractors or major infrastructure delivery teams.
- Familiarity with design and document management systems and engineering platforms such as AutoCAD, 12D, Civil 3D,
Propeller and/or Trimble Business Centre is advantageous.
- Demonstrated experience in bulk earthworks and/or large-scale form, reinforcement and concrete pour works.
- A strong understanding of civil infrastructure, construction methodology, constructability and the interface between design and delivery.
- A Construction Induction Card (White Card), valid Australian driver license and willingness to work the required Badgingarra FIFO roster.
