The Role

This is an exciting opportunity to join SMS Mining Services as part of our 2027 Apprenticeship Intake. You’ll gain invaluable hands-on experience working alongside some of the largest equipment in the mining industry, developing your skills with the support of experienced tradespeople. Based at our Kalgoorlie workshop, this is a fantastic opportunity to begin building a rewarding career in the mining industry.

Supported by a dedicated mentor and surrounded by a team of highly skilled and experienced professionals, you’ll have the opportunity to build your skills, grow your knowledge and kick-start a rewarding career in mining. There’s no better place to begin your apprenticeship journey than with SMS.

As a Boilermaker Welder apprentice, you’ll gain hands-on experience welding, shaping and assembling metal plates, structural steel and components for heavy mobile machinery. Working alongside qualified boilermakers, you’ll assist with inspections, repairs and maintenance while developing your practical skills and knowledge. You’ll learn from experienced tradespeople, following their guidance and building the skills needed to develop your career as a Boilermaker. You’ll also be paid for both your time on site and your TAFE study days, allowing you to earn while you learn.

What We’re Looking For

- Dedicated and motivated individuals with a genuine passion for building a career in the mining industry
- A solid commitment to workplace health and safety
- Applicants who are currently based in Kalgoorlie, Western Australia
- Certificate II in Engineering Pathways is desirable, but not essential
- Previous hands-on mechanical or practical experience is advantageous
- Applicants must be Australian citizens or permanent residents to be considered for this opportunity
