The Role

This is an exciting chance to join SMS Mining Services as part of our 2027 Apprenticeship Intake. You’ll gain invaluable hands-on experience working alongside some of the largest equipment in the mining industry, while learning from experienced tradespeople in a supportive environment. Based at our Kalgoorlie workshop, this is a fantastic opportunity to begin building a rewarding career in the mining industry.

Supported by a dedicated mentor and surrounded by a team of highly skilled and experienced professionals, you’ll have the opportunity to build your skills, grow your knowledge and kick-start a rewarding career in mining. There’s no better place to begin your apprenticeship journey than with SMS.

As an Auto Electrician apprentice, you’ll gain hands-on experience installing, maintaining and repairing electrical wiring, computer systems and electronic components in vehicles and heavy mobile equipment. You’ll work alongside experienced tradespeople, learning from their expertise and guidance as you develop your skills and knowledge. You’ll also be paid for both your time on site and your TAFE study days, allowing you to earn while you learn.

What We’re Looking For

- Dedicated and motivated individuals with a genuine passion for building a career in the mining industry
- A strong commitment to workplace health and safety
- Applicants who are currently based in Kalgoorlie, Western Australia
- Pre-apprenticeship in Automotive Electrical Technology is desirable, but not essential
- Previous hands-on mechanical or practical experience is advantageous
- Applicants must be Australian citizens or permanent residents to be considered for this opportunity
