The Role

This is an exciting chance to join SMS Mining Services as part of our 2027 Apprenticeship Intake. You’ll gain invaluable hands-on experience working alongside some of the largest equipment in the mining industry, developing your skills with the support of experienced tradespeople. Based at our Kalgoorlie workshop, this is a fantastic opportunity to begin building a rewarding career in the mining industry.

As a Heavy Duty Mechanic apprentice, you’ll gain hands-on experience maintaining, servicing and repairing heavy mobile equipment, ensuring all machinery meets site standards and operates safely and efficiently. You’ll work alongside experienced tradespeople, learning from their expertise and following their guidance as you develop your skills and knowledge. You’ll also be paid for both your time on site and your TAFE study days, allowing you to earn while you learn.

What We’re Looking For

- Dedicated and motivated individuals with a genuine passion for building a career in the mining industry
- A strong commitment to workplace health and safety
- Applicants who are currently based in Kalgoorlie, Western Australia
- Certificate II in Automotive Servicing Technology (Heavy Vehicle Servicing Pre-Apprenticeship) is desirable, but not essential
- Previous hands-on mechanical or practical experience is advantageous
- Applicants must be Australian citizens or permanent residents to be considered for this opportunity
