Hemmant

Build a real trade. Work on serious projects. Have every Friday off.

Looking for a hands-on career where you can learn a specialised trade, earn a nationally recognised qualification and build skills that can take you into fabrication, leadership, CNC, projects and beyond?

Industrial Plastics is looking for a motivated Apprentice Plastic Fabricator to join our manufacturing team in Hemmant.

You don’t need years of experience. If you’re practical, reliable, enjoy building things and want to become genuinely skilled at what you do, we’ll teach you the trade from the ground up.

You’ll work alongside experienced tradespeople manufacturing custom tanks, pipework and engineered plastic equipment used across mining, water treatment, chemical, agriculture and major industrial projects throughout Australia.

This isn’t repetitive production-line work. Almost every project is different.

Why join Industrial Plastics?

- Four-day work week – Monday to Thursday
- Every Friday off
- Earn while you complete a nationally recognised trade qualification
- Structured, hands-on training with experienced fabricators
- Learn specialised plastic welding and fabrication techniques
- Gain exposure to working with engineering drawings and advanced manufacturing
- Opportunity to complete additional industry tickets and welding qualifications
- Work on large, custom-built projects for major Australian industries
- Clear pathways into senior fabrication, team leadership, CNC, estimating, projects and other areas of the business
- Join an established Australian manufacturing company where positive people have the opportunity to build a long-term career

What you’ll learn

From day one,

you’ll gradually develop practical skills across the full fabrication process, including reading workshop and engineering drawings, measuring and marking out materials, cutting and preparing components, assembling fabricated structures, and learning specialised plastic welding techniques including extrusion, butt and hand welding. You’ll also gain exposure to CNC machinery, quality control and the process of taking a custom project from a drawing through to a finished product ready for delivery.

As your skills grow, so will the responsibility you’re given.

Who we’re looking for

Experience in fabrication, construction, manufacturing, mechanical work or using tools is an advantage — but attitude matters more. We’re looking for someone who:

- Enjoys practical, hands-on work
- Takes pride in doing a job properly
- Is reliable and turns up ready to work
- Is willing to learn and take feedback
- Can measure accurately and has good basic numeracy
- Works well as part of a team
- Has a strong attitude toward safety
- Wants to develop a genuine trade and build a career

School leavers are welcome to apply, but we also strongly encourage applications from trade assistants, labourers,

junior fabricators or people with 1–3 years of hands-on experience who want to turn that experience into a recognised qualification and long-term career.

A trade you might not have considered

Plastic fabrication is a specialised trade combining fabrication, welding, engineering and advanced manufacturing. Instead of working with steel, you’ll learn to fabricate engineered thermoplastics used in demanding industrial environments where corrosion resistance and chemical performance matter.

It’s a skill set that is used across industries including mining, water infrastructure, chemical processing, agriculture and advanced manufacturing.

And you won’t be boxed into one role.

As you develop, there are opportunities to move into areas such as senior fabrication, team leadership, CNC machining, estimating, technical sales and project work.

About Industrial Plastics

Industrial Plastics is a long-established Australian manufacturer specialising in engineered thermoplastic solutions. From our Brisbane facility, we design and manufacture custom tanks, pipework, chambers and specialised fabricated equipment for customers across Australia.

We’re a growing, close-knit team that believes strongly in developing skilled people from within. We want apprentices to finish their qualification with more than a certificate — we want them to understand the full manufacturing process and have a clear pathway for where their career can go next.

If you’re ready to learn a trade, build impressive things and develop skills that will stay with you for life, we’d like to hear from you.

Apply with your resume and tell us a little about why a hands-on career interests you.
