About One Percent Basketball

One Percent Basketball is a Melbourne-based player development program built around one simple philosophy: get 1% better every day.

We work with athletes across a range of ages and ability levels, from developing juniors through to representative, senior and high-performance players. Our training focuses on purposeful skill development, basketball IQ, game-realistic decision making and building confident, well-rounded athletes.

We currently deliver 1-on-1, small-group and group training sessions across Melbourne, with locations including Tullamarine and Sunshine West, while continuing to grow our programs, camps, clinics and player development opportunities.

As One Percent Basketball continues to expand, we are looking for experienced and motivated basketball coaches who want to become part of our coaching team and contribute to the development of the next generation of players.

The Role

- We are seeking Basketball Development Coaches to deliver high-quality individual and small-group training sessions across our Melbourne locations.
- This is a part-time, on-site coaching position, ideal for coaches who are passionate about player development and want to work within a professional, energetic and growing basketball environment.
- As a One Percent Basketball coach, you will be responsible for delivering structured and engaging sessions that challenge athletes while providing the individual feedback and coaching they need to improve.

Key Responsibilities

- Deliver high-quality 1-on-1, small-group and group basketball development sessions
- Teach and develop basketball fundamentals, advanced skills and game-specific concepts
- Plan structured sessions with clear development objectives




- Assess individual athletes and identify areas for improvement
- Design appropriate skill progressions based on player age, experience and ability
- Provide clear, constructive and encouraging feedback
- Help athletes improve their confidence, decision making and basketball IQ
- Create competitive, enjoyable and game-realistic training environments
- Communicate professionally with athletes, parents and caregivers
- Assist with future One Percent Basketball camps, clinics, academies and development programs
- Represent One Percent Basketball professionally both on and off the court
- Maintain a safe, inclusive and positive environment for every athlete

What We're Looking For

We are looking for coaches who genuinely enjoy developing players, not simply running drills.

Successful candidates will ideally demonstrate:

- Strong basketball knowledge and playing/coaching experience
- Previous experience coaching within club, representative, school, academy or high-performance basketball environments
- A strong understanding of individual player development
- Ability to teach both fundamental and advanced basketball skills
- Strong session planning and skill progression abilities
- Ability to explain concepts clearly and adapt coaching methods for different athletes
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills




- Confidence working with athletes across different ages and ability levels
- Reliability, professionalism and strong organisation
- A positive attitude and willingness to contribute to the growth of One Percent Basketball
- A commitment to creating a safe, inclusive and motivating training setting

Desirable Qualifications

• The following are highly regarded but are not necessarily essential:

- Basketball Victoria or Basketball Australia coaching accreditation
- Current Working With Children Check
- First Aid/CPR certification
- Experience playing or coaching at representative, Big V, NBL1, state, national or other high-performance levels

Availability

Coaches must be able to travel to training locations including:

Tullamarine, VIC

Sunshine West, VIC

Sessions may operate across

- Before-school mornings
- After-school periods
- Evenings
- Weekends
- School holiday camps and clinics
- Availability does not need to cover every session. We are looking to build a team of coaches who can contribute across different programs and locations.
