The role
As our Senior Bookkeeper, you will take ownership of the bookkeeping function, ensuring the business maintains accurate and up-to-date financial records and meets all relevant accounting and regulatory requirements. This is a hands-on role with responsibility for BAS/GST preparation, financial reporting, reconciliations and the overall integrity of the business’s financial records, while providing reliable financial information to support effective business decision-making.
You will also provide guidance, support and day-to-day direction to the internal Bookkeeper, acting as a key point of escalation for more complex financial queries. You will play an important role in ensuring consistency, accuracy and efficiency across the bookkeeping function and supporting continuous improvement of financial processes.
Key duties
- Maintain accurate end-to end-data entry and reporting of accounts payable and receivable, including supplier and customer card setup, timely sales invoicing, payments and collections
- Accurate processing of weekly payment runs and reimbursement claims
- BAS preparation and lodgement
- Manage monthly and year-end reconciliations of bank accounts, supplier and customer accounts, and MYOB AccountRight sales,
investigating and resolving discrepancies as required.
- Maintain and reconcile the general ledger and balance sheet accounts, investigating and resolving discrepancies as required.
- Reconcile construction retentions, follow up outstanding claims, and assist with monthly retention reporting
- Record sales remittances in a timely manner, reconciling where required against approved payment claims for construction jobs
- Ensure expenses are recorded to the correct job codes or to expense overheads accordingly
- Maintain accurate recording keeping of financial records for GST compliance purposes
- Assist with the lodgement of the TPAR
Key attributes and experience
- Certificate IV in Accounting and Bookkeeping
- Proven BAS/GST and compliance capability
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in a Senior Bookkeeping role
- Strong time management skills and deadline driven.
- High attention to detail and accuracy
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Robust knowledge of building and construction will be highly advantageous
- Ability to manage high transaction volume processing.
- Proficiency in using MYOB Account Right and a strong understanding of accounting principles and GST
- Effective written and verbal communication skills for liaising with team members, suppliers and clients
- High Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
- High level of personal and professional integrity
- Proven ability to manage sensitive commercial information
