Role details The Peer Workforce Team at the Mackay Community Health Centre is seeking applications for a Carer Peer Worker to join their team on a temporary basis.

Your opportunity

Utilise a lived experience as a support person (carer, family, friend) of someone experiencing mental health issues, substance use and recovery, to assist support persons of clients of the Mental Health, Alcohol and Other Drugs Service. Supporting them to be better equipped in caring for someone with mental health issues, substance use and recovery to achieve their best outcomes, and to support those providing clinical care to develop a better understanding of recovery-oriented care and the additional benefits that peer support can provide.

Provide efficient, effective, ethical and confidential person centred, nonclinical peer support within the Mackay Mental Health, Alcohol and Other Drugs Division, across both community and inpatient settings.

Work under direction to facilitate the delivery of peer support for support persons of the Mental Health, Alcohol and Other Drugs service.

About the Team

Staff members of the Workforce Partnerships and Career development Team, work within a multi-disciplinary team framework to deliver high quality services safely and with a robust culture of continuing improvement.



Staff work collaboratively with each other and with consumers, their families/carers and external service providers. The team comprises of several positions working in key areas such as:

Suicide Prevention & Aftercare

Service Reform & Service Integration
