Portarlington Grand Hotel is looking for an experienced, motivated and reliable Chef to join our kitchen team.

This is an opportunity for a chef who is looking to take the next step in their career and progress into a Sous Chef position.

The successful candidate will start through our normal recruitment and induction process, with progression into the Sous Chef role based on experience, performance, leadership ability and suitability for the position.

We are looking for someone who is genuinely interested in developing their leadership skills and taking on greater responsibility within a busy hotel kitchen.

About the role

You will work closely with the Head Chef and kitchen team to ensure smooth day-to-day kitchen operations and consistent food quality.

As you develop into the role, responsibilities will include:

- Preparing and cooking across the menu
- Assisting with daily kitchen operations
- Leading and supporting the kitchen team during service
- Maintaining high standards of food quality and presentation
- Ensuring mise en place is organised and service runs efficiently
- Training and supporting junior kitchen staff
- Assisting with stock control, ordering and deliveries
- Maintaining food safety, hygiene and cleaning standards
- Helping with kitchen organisation and preparation
- Taking greater responsibility for the kitchen as you progress into the Sous Chef role
- Assisting the Head Chef with the overall running of the kitchen

About you We are looking for someone who has:




- Previous experience working in a busy commercial kitchen
- Strong cooking and preparation skills
- A positive and reliable attitude
- Good communication and teamwork skills
- The ability to work calmly during busy service
- Good organisation and attention to detail
- A strong understanding of food safety and kitchen hygiene
- The ability to work evenings, weekends and public holidays as required
- A genuine desire to develop into a kitchen leadership role

Previous leadership or supervisory experience is an advantage, but we are also interested in experienced chefs who are ready to take their first step into leadership.
