Role Description The Commercial Manager is a full-time position based in Sydney, operating under a hybrid work arrangement that combines client-facing, office-based and remote working.
Working across major infrastructure and energy projects, you will provide contract management expertise throughout the project lifecycle. You will work closely with clients, contractors and project teams to manage commercial risk, support informed decision-making and contribute to successful project outcomes.
What you'll do
- Support commercial and contract management activities from procurement through to project close-out.
- Assess, negotiate and resolve variations, extensions of time and delay claims.
- Administer contracts under AS4000, AS2124, NEC and bespoke forms, while advising clients on contractual obligations, risks and opportunities.
- Develop and present commercial positions to clients, contractors and key stakeholders.
- Manage cost control, forecasting and change management processes.
- Support procurement activities, including tender evaluation, contract strategy, negotiation and award.
- Ensure contractual obligations and project requirements are effectively managed throughout delivery.
- Mentor and support junior team members through practical, hands-on collaboration.
Qualifications & Experience
We're looking for someone with strong commercial judgement, a proactive mindset and the ability to build trusted relationships with clients and project teams. Ideally, you will have:
- Experience in commercial management, contract management, contract administration or commercial advisory on major infrastructure, construction, utilities or energy projects.
- Experience managing Tier 1 contractors and complex project stakeholders.
- Knowledge of various contract forms, with exposure to NEC and/or AS suites viewed favourably.
- Familiarity with delivery models such as Design & Construct, Construct only, Early Contractor Involvement and team-oriented contracting.
- Experience supporting procurement and contracting activities.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving and commercial decision-making skills.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Relevant qualifications and charterships in quantity surveying, engineering, law, or a related discipline.
