Commissioning Manager – Hyperscale Data Centre

Contract: 12 months

Rate: $120 – $130 per hour + GST

About the role

MMD Recruitment is seeking an experienced Commissioning Manager to support the delivery of a major hyperscale data centre project in Sydney. This is a senior technical role responsible for managing the commissioning lifecycle across complex electrical, mechanical, controls and mission-critical infrastructure, ensuring systems are fully tested, integrated, validated and handed over in accordance with project, design and operational requirements.

The successful candidate will work closely with engineering, construction, vendors, contractors and operations teams to drive commissioning from installation verification through to functional testing, integrated systems testing and final operational readiness.

Key responsibilities

- Develop and manage the overall commissioning strategy, programme and execution plan
- Lead commissioning activities across HV/LV electrical systems, generators, UPS, switchgear, transformers, cooling systems, CRAHs, chillers, BMS and controls
- Coordinate pre-commissioning, static testing, functional performance testing and integrated systems testing
- Manage commissioning interfaces between electrical, mechanical, controls and specialist vendor systems
- Review and approve commissioning plans, test scripts, method statements, ITPs and technical documentation
- Coordinate system energisation, testing sequences and commissioning hold points
- Lead Integrated Systems Testing (IST) and failure-mode testing across critical infrastructure
- Monitor commissioning progress against programme milestones and system completion dates
- Manage defects, punch lists, commissioning constraints and technical non-conformances through to close-out




- Ensure commissioning activities comply with approved design documentation, specifications and client standards
- Coordinate witnessing requirements with consultants, client representatives and operations teams
- Manage system handover documentation including test records, O&M; manuals, commissioning reports and completion packs
- Support operational readiness, training, handover and transition into live operations
- Provide technical commissioning reporting, risk assessments and recommendations to senior project stakeholders

What we're looking for

- 15+ years’ experience across engineering, construction and commissioning
- Strong previous experience delivering data centre or mission-critical infrastructure
- Detailed understanding of electrical and mechanical building services systems
- Solid experience with commissioning, energisation, integrated systems testing and operational handover
- Experience managing Tier 1 contractors, specialist vendors and commissioning agents
- Strong understanding of commissioning sequencing and system dependencies
- Proven experience managing technically complex projects through testing and completion
- Strong documentation, QA, defect management and compliance experience
- Relevant Engineering, Construction or Technical qualification
- Full Australian working rights

Previous experience delivering hyperscale data centres will be highly regarded.
