Powered by Arizona State University (ASU), IHM combines academic excellence with cutting-edge technologies, including simulation-based learning and digital education platforms.
As part of our vision to become Australia's first University College specialised in Nursing by 2030, we are committed to delivering transformative learning experiences that support career advancement and workforce development in healthcare.
About the role
As Course Coordinator you are the academic custodian of the course. You'll hold end-to-end accountability for curriculum quality, assessment standards, regulatory compliance and student progression outcomes, across every campus, cohort and mode of delivery.
This is a genuine leadership role. You'll lead accreditation activity with ANMAC, chair the Course Advisory Committee, and set the academic standards our teaching team delivers against. You'll also keep a foot in the classroom, teaching into the course at a level appropriate to your appointment.
Key Responsibilities
- Academic Leadership & Course Coordination: Lead the Bachelor of Nursing (AQF 7), including course planning, delivery and review, staff mentoring, and Course Team meetings with key stakeholders.
- Curriculum & Assessment: Lead curriculum development and review in line with the AQF, HES Framework, ANMACand NMBA requirements, ensuring contemporary, evidence-based teaching, assessment, simulation, interprofessional learning, cultural safety, and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health perspectives.
- Assessment & Results Governance: Oversee assessment moderation, grade review and moderation reports, and coordinate the endorsement, ratification and release of results through relevant academic committees, the Head of School, Academic Board and Registrar, while maintaining appropriate records.
- Clinical Placement & Work-Integrated Learning: Oversee clinical placements with the National Placement Coordinator and Clinical Facilitators, ensuring required placement hours, learning outcomes and ANMAC requirements are met, with ongoing quality assurance and continuous improvement.
- Enrolment, Retention & Student Success: Develop strategies to attract, support and retain students, including early intervention and academic, English language and clinical skills support for students requiring additional assistance.
- Teaching, Research & Scholarship: Contribute to teaching, research and scholarship and support academic staff with research, publications and professional development, including NMBA CPD requirements.
- Student Support & Wellbeing: Promote a safe, respectful and inclusive learning environment, respond to student concerns, support engagement, and appropriately escalate health, safety, wellbeing and fitness-to-practise matters in accordance with NMBA requirements and IHM’s CARING values.
Essential Qualifications & Experience
- A doctoral qualification in nursing or a closely related health discipline (PhD or qualified doctorate)
- Current unrestricted registration as a Registered Nurse with Ahpra
- Substantial clinical nursing experience with demonstrated currency of practice
- Experience teaching into an accredited pre-registration nursing program in Australian higher education
- Working knowledge of the ANMAC Registered Nurse Accreditation Standards, NMBA registration standards and the Higher Education Standards Framework 2021
- Understanding of ESOS and National Code obligations as they apply to international students
- Demonstrated experience in curriculum and assessment design, and in moderation
- Proven ability to lead and develop academic teams
- Demonstrated alignment with IHM's values, including a commitment to inclusive teaching practice and to academic integrity
How our values show up in this role Excellence — means holding the course to standards that stand up to external scrutiny, not the minimum that passes.
Care — means treating student wellbeing as inseparable from academic rigour. Our students carry significant responsibility into clinical settings, and they deserve teaching that prepares them properly.
Integrity — means protecting assessment standards and representing the course honestly — to students and regulators alike.
Inclusion — means designing teaching that works for a culturally and linguistically diverse cohort across four campuses.
Innovation — means improving how nursing is taught, rather than defending how it has always been taught.
